Noun Plurals rules 1-4
To form the plurals of most nouns, add –s Example: girls, cheeses, tasks, oats, bananas 2. Form the plurals of nouns ending in S, X, Z, CH, or SH by adding –ES Example: mosses, waxes, Sanchezes, birches, dishes NOTE: some one-syllable words ending in Z double the final consonant when forming plurals. Example: quizzes, fezzes 3. Form the plurals of nouns ending in Y preceded by a consonant by changing the Y to i and adding –ES Example: ladies, hobbies, counties, strawberries NOTE: with proper nouns, simply add S Example: the Applebys, the Trilbys 4. Form the plurals of nouns ending in Y preceded by a vowel by adding –S. Example: toys, journeys, highways, Wednesdays You will be given a list of words like those above for you to add the proper ending. Know the rule, you can form the plural correctly.
