DE or HET ?
In English, the definite article has only one form: the. But Dutch has two forms: de and het.
In general, you have to learn the article together with the noun, but there are some rules:
HET:
all words that end in -JE
all colours, languages and fabrics
DE:
all plural words
all numbers, letters, mountains, oceans and rivers
most persons, animals, flowers and musical instruments
The rest is just because....When you're in doubt, choose DE.
Good luck!
