Combining Sentences, Exercise 1

In English, sentences can be combined in formalized (selected) ways. If you do not follow these rules, your sentence will be wrong -- either incomplete or too long to make it understandable and readable.
Look at the three examples in each mini-story below. Decide which example uses a correct way of combining the two (or more) parts of the sentence. Choose which one is best.
