A pictograph is a variation of a bar graph in which symbols are used to represent amounts that would normally be shown by the bars. Usually a symbol is selected that represents the subject of the graph. Pictographs, like bar graphs, are especially useful for making comparisons. *Read the title to determine the subject of the graph. *Identify the symbol and the amount that each symbol represents. *Read the labels and determine the intervals used on the vertical and horizontal axes of the graph. *Scan the graph and notice any unusual amounts or changes in amounts shown on the graph.
