sss17 Analyzing Historical Maps

Social Studies Skills 17 - Analyzing Historical Maps Click Here for the Worksheet! All maps provide information about places. A historical map provides information about places at a specific time in history. Maps that show such freatures as trade or exploration routes, military actions, or former territorial boundaries are historical maps. Historical maps include the elements that are included on all maps, such as a title, scale, a latitude and longitude grid, and compass direction. Often, however, they do not have legends. Instead, information is presented on the map with special labels. In this way, changes in a certain area over a period of time can be combined onto one map.
