Who vs. Whom

The relative pronoun who is used when the pronoun is the subject of the relative clause.
Ex. The girl who entered the room was Carrie.

Tip: you will know if the relative pronoun is a subject if another noun is not functioning as the subject. "who entered the room" has no other noun between who and the verb entered. Therefore, who is the subject.

The relative pronoun whom is used when the pronoun is the direct object or indirect object or the object of a preposition in the relative clause.

The first person whom we will visit is Uncle Dan.
(hint: flip the adjective clause so the subject is first. We will visit whom. See how whom is the direct object here.)
