“Quamquam cīvēs erant maestī, nēmō tamen vītam prō Admētō dare volēbat. Alcestī miserae marītum servāre necesse erat. Itaque Alcestis, uxor rēgis, nūntiāvit, ‘Libenter vītam meam prō marītō dabō.’ Statim Alcestis ad terram cecidit et aegra esse incipiēbat. Ut uxor rēgis ē vītā excēdēbat, Admētus nōn iam fuit aeger. Rēx autem ad uxōrem cucurrit.
