Latin 200 - Unit 2 - Test - Reading/Grammar Part (FIRST HALF)

If you take a break, you need to keep your test OPEN - you can't submit it and then start over again. If you do take a break, I suggest copying and pasting all your work into an email so it doesn't get accidentally deleted.

Bonam fortūnam! Notes:

1) Macrons are NOT complete! Some have been put in.

2) The verb tenses are all over the place (present alternating with past). The only verb tense I’ll be picky about is pluperfect – please use “had” when you see it.

3) You should be able to read this pretty much in the order it’s written – but mentally “float” for a verb when needed. Watch what words go together – there are some like “hominī bonō” (don’t match but are same case, #, gender) and some like “Mārcum īrātus Quīntus pulsat” (you want to say “Quintus hits angry Marcus,” but if you watch endings it’s really “Angry Quintus hits Marcus.”)

4) Hints:
alveō = in a basket.
Regnum = kingdom.
Remember that “legere” can also mean “to collect.”
Vestae sacerdotem = Vestal Virgin, like a nun.
Also, when Numitor was expelled by his brother, he apparently retained some freedom and was able to own sheep/property, about which his brother dealt with him fairly.
Lupa = female lupus.
Abiēcit = iēcit.
Traditum est = has been handed down / told through the years.
Natus, -ūs = birth.
Necessitate = by necessity.
Avus = grandfather.
Peperit = pariō, parere, peperī, partus.
