4.07 Acid Naming and Formula Writing
Acids are a special type of compound. They are covalent compounds, but when they dissolve in water, they behave like ionic compounds, so balancing charges is important. They are named like ionic compounds with a few changes which you are being required to learn: "hydrogen" in the beginning of the name changes to "acid: at the end. Also, the ending of the negative ion changes from "-ate," "-ite," and "-ide" to "-ic," "-ous," and "hydro- -ic" respectively.
