The game of Paganica is similar to golf. It was developed by Romans who occupied parts of Scotland and England and was a popular outdoor sport from about 43 to 400 AD. Paganica is played with a bent stick and a leather ball stuffed with feathers. Historians trace golf back to this and other games such as Het Kolven from Holland, Chole from Belgium, Jeu de Mail from France, and Cambuca from England. However, the majority of the general public believes that golf was developed entirely by the Scots.

Golf is played with a small, hard ball, and many different kinds of clubs: #1 to #5 woods, #1 to #9 irons, a pitching wedge, sand wedge, and a putter. Golf is played on a course usually having 18 units, but smaller courses may have only 9. These units are called 'holes' and include a, tee, a fairway and a putting green which surrounds the ball's target - a hole in the ground. Starting at the first hole, a player hits the ball with a club of his or her choice. Which club is selected depends on how far from the tee the target hole is; the heavier the club, the further the ball will fly.
