First, the diver got off the ship and stayed on top of the water in order to put on a nose clip to avoid breathing and swallowing water. He then put a four to seven kilo weight around his leg using a rope to speed up his swim down to the oyster bed. After getting there, he united the weight which was pulled up by one of the team members on the ship. Around the divers neck he had a basket which he used to fill with oysters. When it was full, he pulled the rope with his leg to signal it was time to bring him back up.
