MAJOR COMPLICATIONS are the events that occur between the conflict and the climax in a story. They help to build suspense while working up towards the climax. When deciding on major complications, you should ask yourself the following questions:
1. Is it essential to the story?
2. Does it connect to/intensify the main problem?
3. Would the climax be the same without it?
