A red asterisk (*) indicates required questions.

  1. What should we do about test prep?*
Ignore it until 12 days before the exam.
Ignore it as a class, but I'll keep doing it every other week during vocabulary.
Keep doing it regularly - it sucks but I think it's better.

  1. Do you want me to keep using Vocab.com for a grade for YOU, personally?
(Keep in mind that if not, then your test scores will be the only thing in that 20% category for you.) *
    Yes
    No

  1. How often do you think we should do a timed writing next quarter?*
    Once a week
    Once every other week
    Once every three weeks
    Once a month
Optional during vocab day - Save it for drilling right before the test.

  1. Is a timed writing still valuable to you if I hand it back to you with only a score on it? (If I also give you AP scored samples?)

(If this were the case, you'd get them back next class.)*
Yes, I usually know what's wrong with my essays and just need more timed practice.
    No, it would frustrate me.

  1. How do you feel about timed writings?*
I hate them, but I know they're necessary.
I don't usually like or dislike them - they're just a thing we do.
They're kinda fun sometimes, depending on the prompt, of course.

  1. Which are you most worried about?*
    the Prose Essay
    the Poetry Essay
    the Open Question (Q3)
Honestly, literally all of them equally

  1. Rate how you felt about the following:
    Hedda Gabler*
      1 2 3 4 5
    Excellent   Poor

  1. Your summer choice book (Handmaid's Tale, Homegoing, Ethan Frome) *
      1 2 3 4 5
    Excellent   Poor

  1. Your quarter 1 choice book (Portrait of Dorian Gray, A Doll's House, The Awakening)*
      1 2 3 4 5
    Excellent   Poor

  1. Frankenstein*
      1 2 3 4 5
    Excellent   Poor

  1. Keeping in mind how important it is to have a wide variety of books under your belt to choose from for Q3, how many literary works are you going to read this YEAR OUTSIDE of those you read in my class?*
    None
    Maybe 1 or 2
    Probably 3 or 4
    5 or more

  1. How often do you ACTUALLY do the assigned reading (yourself)? (It's anonymous.)*
    Every single time
I've missed maybe 1 or 2 so far.
    75% of the time
    Half the time
    Less than half the time

  1. For quarter 3, we're going to read a play of my choosing and a novel.

What do you think is best for YOU, for the novel? *
If we all read the same book, which allows us to have more in-class discussion that applies to everyone
If we choose a book from a list of three, which makes it more likely you'll like the book but means I can't guide you as much in in-class discussion
If I get to choose my own book of literary merit (with teacher approval)

  1. I've been contemplating giving you 20 minutes to read in class each day, either whatever our common assigned book is, or a choice book. What do you think of that? *
That sounds great - it works better in my schedule than doing it all at home.
That might be nice; I'd get more reading done.
That's a waste - I get the reading done at home just fine.
It wouldn't really be enough time to help. I'd rather have a longer chunk of time once a week.

  1. Another thing I was contemplating was making every Friday (so every OTHER week) an Exam Practice Day when you would get to choose to either: a) do MC practice or b) write an essay.

What do you think about that? *
Sounds good - I like the idea of scheduled test practice and having a choice.
    Sure, whatever.
Nah, sounds like too much test prep.

  1. Do you find walk-through Edpuzzles for passages helpful? *
Yes, please do and assign more required ones.
Yes, but I'll probably grumble about doing them.
No, I don't find them particularly helpful.

  1. I struggle because the real test needs to be hand-written in a timed format, but I also think there's value to typing and revising.

So here's what I'm thinking: For those timed essays, you'd write them in a timed setting during class, then your homework that night would be to type it up and submit it. That way if you didn't finish, you'd have a chance to add to it (in a different color), and you could also have a chance to revise/clean it up.

    What do you think? *
    Cool, sounds good.
Nah, seems like too much work.

  1. Why are you here? What's your main priority? *
My main concern is passing the AP Test.
75% passing the test, 25% other valuable English stuff.
    50-50.
25% passing the test, 75% other valuable English stuff.
I don't care that much about test prep. I just want to read and write interesting stuff.

  1. Should I keep doing WOD on Classroom? *
    Yeah, it helps me.
Nah, it's just busy work and doesn't help me remember it

  1. How many words do you think we ought to "learn"/study every 2 weeks?*
    10
    15
    20
    25

  1. If I were to make MC corrections REQUIRED (though still extra credit - trust me, it works), what would you think? *
I'd be glad because it would help me learn and help my grade.
I'd probably grumble but I'd do it because it's required and I know it would help.
I'd do it, but I would do a shoddy job of it because I don't value it.
I wouldn't do it because I'm lazy or because I don't value it.

  1. What did you think about the Poetry Out Loud project? Check all that apply. *
I liked it - it was interesting to read all the poems and hear other people's.
It was nice to just read a poem and try to get inside the emotions instead of analyzing it.
    It was fine.
I didn't love it personally, but I can see its merit.
    It was torture for me.

  1. Or, here's a wild idea...

What if we just pretended there was no exam and didn't do any test prep until the last 10 class periods, and we drilled?

(Until then we'd read more and write more slowly (and creatively!) *
Sounds good to me! Let's try it.
I don't think so - one month isn't enough to get ready, or if I don't do MC and timed writes regularly, I think I'll get rusty.
    I'm not sure.

  1. Did you actually read your choice books?*
    I read both.
    I read one of them.
    Nope. Mostly read summaries online.

  1. Do you think our kind of vocabulary study (learning lists) has value?
Yes, I like it and think it helps.
Yes, it has value, though I don't particularly like it.
Maybe, but it seems like a lot of work for little long-term payoff.
No - it's just memorizing and I don't ever see or use the words again.
