The Panyee Football Club: LITERARY ESSAY: Introductory Paragraph

One purpose of the introductory paragraph is to tell the reader how you will organize your essay (also known as text structure).
That is why we wrote the thesis statement last week. The thesis statement includes 3 supporting details from the video that you are going to further explain in your literary essay.

Another purpose of the introductory paragraph is to HOOK your reader, or make the reader interested in your essay. The hook is one or two sentences that make your reader WANT to keep reading your essay.

Include a little description of The Panyee Football Club as well to give the reader a little bit of background information about the boys in the video.

Your introductory paragraph should be 4-7 sentences long.

    SAMPLE INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH.....
    In the video "The Panyee Football Club" we learn about boys living on a small island in Koh Panyee who loved to play soccer. Because of where they lived, it was difficult for them to play soccer on their small floating village. However, this didn't stop the boys from following their dream. After watching the video, "The Panyee Football Club," I learned that you can achieve your dreams if you are determined. In the video "The Panyee Football Club," the boys were determined. The boys were determined because they built a pitch even though they lived on an island, because they played in the semi-final and they were losing, and because most of all they won third place in the tournament.
