AP Students Respond to Distance Learning / COVID

The questions in the survey are not directly tied to any particular class, so answer "on the whole." This survey is something I made, not the district, in order to have a stronger perspective for the committee I am on; I want to share your earnest positions and reflections, and people on this committee are interested in this as well. This is a "building-level" committee simply trying to do "distance learning" better if we must do it again, whether that be a total distance learning experience or some kind of hybrid of distance and "normal" school. We don't have a lot of power, but we will share our findings with those with power. So be kind but truthful. Provide insight that only students may have.

  1. On as scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being highest/best, rank the importance of making weekly direct interaction with your teachers during distance learning.
    1 2 3 4 5

  1. On as scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being highest/best, how would you rate your teachers' attempts to move class content into an online format?
    1 2 3 4 5

  1. On as scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being highest/best, how do you rate your own learning initiative and diligence during this time?
    1 2 3 4 5

  1. On as scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being highest/best, how would you rate the ease with which you could get help from your teachers?
    1 2 3 4 5

  1. On as scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being very uncomfortable and 5 being quite comfortable, how comfortable would you be sitting in a "typical" classroom next year if there are no changes in virus testing, vaccines, etc.?
    1 2 3 4 5

  1. During April and May, did you find yourself working during the day for local employers?
    Yes
    No

  1. Do you feel your teachers, as a group, were cognizant of the amount of work, overall, school demanded of you during this time?
    Yes
    No

  1. Did you, at any point, have trouble connecting with teachers about school work due to technology issues or other life complications?
    Yes
    No

  1. If school has to move back into a "distance learning" model at some point again in the future, what do you think your teachers most need to consider?

  1. Tell us about the amount of school work you experienced per week, please. How many hours total? How much screen time? How did the workload compare to "normal" school? As you reflect, add any point of emphasis or topic you think would be helpful for teachers to discuss.

  1. Some models of online schooling pace classes so that students do not have 7 classes to tend to all at once. Perhaps a model of schooling could have a few classes a week and have the weeks alternate. There are a number of solutions. What are your thoughts? Is this necessary? Unnecessary?

  1. Keeping in mind that teachers on the committee reviewing the topics in this survey are well-meaning volunteers, of which I am one, please share anything that you think would be helpful. Remember, you are talking to people who want this to be much better if we have to do it again. Feel free to elaborate on anything already touched upon in the survey as well as things not mentioned.
