End of year survey for parents - 2024-25
Dear Parents, I have one last request: Could you fill out the attached survey? It will take less than ten minutes... unless you get really into it. Why would I ask you to fill out a survey? It’s because as parents you see how my lessons contribute to vibrant conversations at home or the opposite... undue stress and frustration. Your responding to the survey gives me meaningful data as I prepare to teach the teachers of tomorrow, my goal post-retirement. So, if you have time, please fill out the survey. Your identity will remain private. Wishing you and your family a fantastic and restorative summer. Thank you for making this a great year. Sincerely, Glen Coleman

- I wonder if a lesson or unit ever caused conversation at home? I think good lessons should inspire conversations. But I understand the reverse can happen: perhaps a lesson leads to frustration or a feeling of defeat, i.e. "I can't do this!"
In short, what kind conversation about World Civ, if any, emerged at home? *

- You probably know, I give students opportunities to do things at least twice. Example: tests and speeches. Was this approach helpful for your child? How so? Could you explain what you witnessed at home? Did the approach engage your child? Burn them out or challenge them in a healthy way?
What did you observe and why?*
|
- How helpful was it to get emails from me? These emails informed you of upcoming assignments or grades, etc. Could you give me context on why or why not these emails were helpful? *
|
- I’m wondering if the assignments I gave were at times too taxing. Was the workload too much? Did your child learn to adjust with the challenges? (Post-COVID-19 it's been tough to find the right balance: not too difficult, not too easy.)*
|
- What are your thoughts about education in our our time of technological change and deepening polarization? Could you connect those thoughts to how we did -- you and me to support your child?

- Thank you, dear parent. What has made River Dell an amazing place to work are the students... and parents!
Thank you for helping to make this year uplifting at the end of my career at River Dell High School. Grateful!
