Licensure - High School Ag Ed
The requirements for becoming an agriculture teacher in Iowa have not been updated for about three decades. In addition to the professional education core the requirements are: Completion of twenty-four semester hours in agriculture to include course work in agronomy, animal science, agricultural mechanics, and agricultural economics. A course in the methods of teaching agriculture is also required in addition to the 24 hours.

- The requirement of 24 hours in agronomy, animal science, agricultural mechanics, and agricultural economics...are still relevant.
- Is there a need to replace some of these requirements with more relevant requirements?
(COMMENT/SUGGESTION)
- Should we try to combine the authority to teach BIOLOGY and/or EARTH SCIENCE with the agriculture endorsement?
- Is there a need to change/revise the requirements in light of the new NATIONAL AG ED STANDARDS?
- Is there a need to change the requirements in light of the new IOWA CORE CURRICULUM requirements?
- Would there be value in ANALYZING THE ROLE of Iowa's COMMUNITY COLLEGES in receiving an Ag Ed endorsement.
- Additional comments/suggestions:
(FYI: Before anyone suggests it, licensure CANNOT be eliminated.)
