We have a choice about what we study next. I have written a summarized view of the each of the three units we can choose from as a group. Please read about each and then place them in the order in which you would like to study them.
History of the Earth- In this unit students will study the history of the Earth. They combine their knowledge of continental drift, biology and geology to make prediction about how the earth has changed through time. In addition, they learn to apply these same principles to everyday situations like antibiotic resistance and genetically engineered foods. You will love this unit if you have some of these questions: What was the earth like in the past? Are birds and dinosaurs really related? How do scientists use fossils to understand history? Is there really such thing as evolution? What is genetic engineering? Can germs really become resistant to antibiotics?
Weather- In this unit students will get an in depth look at how the atmosphere works. Of course we all know the basics, but really... How does a tornado form? Why do we have more tornados in the US than any where in the world? Can you predict the weather from looking at the clouds? You will love this unit if you love to be outside and have ever wondered what makes the sky do the things it does?
Climate change- I am sure you have heard the recent news stories about global warming. Have you seen the movie "An Inconvenient Truth"? If not the movie, by Al Gore, describes how the world will change if it continues to warm up? But is it true? Will the earth really continue to warm? And what about the past? Has the earth ever been cold or hot in the past? Is it possible this is all part of the geologic history of earth... or is something catastrophic happening? You will love this unit if you have questions like these!
Rank the options above. Your number one choice is what you wish to study first!
