  1. Understandably, some students feel resentful about having to take mandatory courses like this one. Why do you think this stuff matters?


  1. The name of this country is "The United States" not "America" because America is a continent, not a country. Yet, people (yes, even educated ones) call the U.S. America. Are they not aware of this continental term? Do people not care that by using America they are appropriating the name of the whole continent? Think of your own use... what do you say?


  1. People who speak Spanish come from many countries. Why do we then say "the Spanish kids" to refer to them when they are not from Spain?
