Parents' Council Volunteer Information for Middle School

Every parent with a child at St. Andrew’s is a member of the St. Andrew’s Parents’ Council. Parents’ Council meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month – all parents are welcome to attend. The meeting dates are currently scheduled for Sep 1, Oct 6, Nov 3, Jan 12, Feb 2, Mar 2, Apr 6, May 4.

Below are the lists of committees needing volunteers. Please scroll through the list and mark any areas in which you are interested in CHAIRING or VOLUNTEERING. You may participate in as many areas as you feel you have time! We assume that if you are willing to Chair a committee, that you are willing to participate as a volunteer. If you have any questions about the time commitment for any opportunity, please contact:

  1. MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

    No-Hassle Fundraisers

    The Parents' Council will receive rebates when St. Andrew's parents and friends use grocery cards, shop on the internet, recycle print cartridges, etc. This is an easy way to raise funds without any additional out-of pocket money spent by parents/friends. Volunteers are needed to coordinate and publicize these fundraisers. Proceeds benefit the Parents’ Council’s teacher enrichment grant program.

  1. Poinsettia Sale
    The Parents’ Council makes poinsettias and holiday wreaths available to the school and community through this sale in December. Proceeds benefit the Parents’ Council’s teacher enrichment grant program.

  1. Fall Concert for the Endowment - November
    This event raises money for the St. Andrew’s Endowment Fund. Volunteers are needed for underwriting, live auction, decorations, reservations, food, floral arrangements, signage and sponsor favors. The date for the event will be in the Fall and is yet to be determined.

  1. LS/MS Book Fair
    The Library, in conjunction with the Development Office, holds this major fundraising event in the fall. Book Fair volunteers help by loading and unloading books for display, setting up and taking down displays and assisting with checkout. Proceeds benefit the St. Andrew’s libraries.

  1. BookPeople Weekend
    One chairperson needed to organize, coordinate and advertise this off-campus event with BookPeople employees.

  1. Family Fair
    This annual all-school festival for St. Andrew’s financial aid program is coordinated by the Development Office and facilitated by the Parents’ Council by providing a team of coordinators and parents who volunteer for a variety of jobs, including coordinating the making of the quilts for the live auction, providing chairpersons for the silent auction, registration, arrangements, food, bakery/pantry, entertainment, set-up, clean-up, decorations and signage, and general assistance in making this a fun-filled day for the school community. Proceeds benefit St. Andrew’s financial aid program.

  1. Spring Fest
    This annual, all school, adults only fundraiser for St. Andrew’s financial aid program is held at the Upper School and coordinated by the Development Office and facilitated by the Parents’ Council by providing a chairperson plus a team of coordinators and parents who volunteer for a variety of jobs, including providing chairpersons for the live and silent auctions, registration, food, entertainment, set-up, clean-up, decorations and signage, and general assistance in making this a fun filled evening for St. Andrew’s parents. Proceeds benefit St. Andrew’s financial aid program.

  1. Grandparents and Grandfriends Day
    Grandparents and Special Friends are invited to visit classes and Chapel. At the Upper School, this day takes place the Wednesday before Easter Break: at the Lower/Middle Schools it occurs on the Thursday before Easter Break.

  1. St. Andrew's Day
    Held in the gym at the Upper School campus in late November, this day celebrates our Patron Saint and includes a service of Holy Communion, lunch on the Nazro Green, and a community-wide service project.

  1. Homecoming Picnic
    Held at the Upper School, usually in late October, this committee helps organize the younger grades for spirit activities at the game.

  1. MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

    The opportunities below each have multiple volunteer opportunities that are scheduled throughout the year.

    Latin Banquet (Grades 5-12)
    Volunteers are needed to line students up for the costume judging, to work in the kitchen, and to chaperone Latin students at this fall banquet. The Latin Banquet attendance is required for all Latin students.

  1. Hot Lunch
    Volunteers are needed to serve hot lunch to students in the Middle Schools. Hot lunch is served four days a week and two volunteers are needed to help each day.

  1. Altar Guild
    Lower and Middle parents are needed to help with weekly chapel maintenance on the 31st Street campus.

  1. 5th-8th Concessions
    Concession volunteers will oversee concessions during specific (division level) sporting events throughout the school year. Volunteers are not expected to assist for all events.The inventory coordinator will purchase supplies and the volunteer coordinator will assign students and parent volunteers to work the concession stands during the games.

  1. Website Volunteer Photographers or Videographers
    Calling all cameras! The chairman of this committee will assign and coordinate volunteer photographers for school events. Sending out monthly reminders and organizing a calendar will help volunteers digitally record the life of St. Andrew’s as it unfolds. The chairman of this committee will also work closely with the Yearbook Staff.

  1. Brown Bag Parent Education
    Parents meet during the lunch hour to learn about a variety of school related and/or parenting topics. Co-chairs are needed to solicit ideas for topics and speakers. Volunteers help to promote the Brown Bag Lunches, set-up, clean-up, and bring waters and napkins for attendees.

  1. Speaker Series
    Throughout the year, St. Andrew’s Parent’s Council brings in speakers for our school alone and sometimes jointly with St. Stephen’s, St. Michaels, Trinity, and St. Gabriel’s Schools. Generally, the topics are relating to parenting issues. Volunteers are needed to help with organizing and publicizing these events.

  1. Faculty Appreciation Luncheon
    One chairperson for the Lower/Middle School and one for the Upper School will set the date and plan a luncheon honoring the St. Andrew’s faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication to our children. Parent volunteers provide the food and the decorations to make it a special day of recognition.

  1. Library Angels
    A group of angels is needed to assist in the Rollins Library. Tasks include reading to the class at library time, helping with computer work, decorating the Library bulletin boards, special projects, and general maintenance of the Library.

    Pizza Day (Mondays)
    Pizza will be served at the Lower and Middle schools one day a week. Two volunteers are needed each week to serve students. This is an approximately 1.5 hour time commitment.

  1. Spirit Shop
    The Parents’ Council sells various St. Andrew’s spirit items throughout the year. Spirit items are sold online, at sports events and at the Spirit Shop, which is located on the 31st street campus. These items must be purchased, stocked, and sold periodically to our students and parents. A coordinator and volunteers from each campus are needed to keep up with and distribute items to the Lower/Middle and Upper Schools.

  1. Parent Gatherings
    A lovely tradition of getting together at the beginning of the school year, parents gather for wine, snacks and reacquainting. Chairman for this committee attend various gatherings to setup, clean-up and serve. Parents’ Council Class Reps are expected to come 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes after their grades’ gathering event.

  1. Faculty Appreciation Snacks
    One chairperson each from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools will assign dates for volunteers to furnish the Teachers’ Lounge with light snacks on a monthly basis.

  1. Lost and Found
    Coordinators and volunteers are needed three times a year to go through Lost and Found items at the 31st Street Campus. Coordinators organize days on which items will be displayed for the students, devise creative ideas to combat the loss of clothing, before the items that remain are donated to a determined charity.

  1. Parent Peer Groups
    Coordinators from each campus will organize informal monthly gatherings of parents. The object is to provide a regular and relaxed forum for parents to come together and talk with other parents about whatever is on their minds concerning their children. Groups will be meet based on two grade level combinations as follows: 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th.

  1. Commencement Events
    • Reception; 7th Grade Hosts: For this special event, 7th grade parent volunteers are needed to coordinate, serve, and host at a reception for the 8th grade graduates immediately following commencement. • 7th Grade End of Year Party: Several 7th grade volunteers are needed to coordinate the 7th grade end of year party which immediately follows 8th grade commencement. • 8th Grade Commencement Celebration: Several 8th grade volunteers will coordinate and help with the 8th grade celebration that immediately follows the commencement ceremony and reception.

  1. Back-to-School-Swim Party
    Chairman from the 7th and 8th Grades and volunteers are needed to provide refreshments and to chaperone this afternoon of swimming and water fun. Generally, the Back-to-School Swim Party is held at the end of the school day on the first Friday that students return back to school.

  1. Fall Dance
    7th-8th grade Fall Dance is organized by the Student Council. Chaperones and Snacks are needed to help make the evening complete. This is a fun night!

  1. Hospitality Committee
    One chairperson each from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools will coordinate refreshments for a variety of St. Andrew’s functions. Volunteers are called upon to provide food, drinks, hosting, and set-up assistance for specific events, such as Back-To-School Night.

  1. Admissions Hospitality
    A chairperson will help the LS/MS Director of Admissions coordinates volunteers who will provide light refreshments for Open Houses throughout the year. No set-up or clean-up is required.

  1. DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
    The Parents' Council Diversity Committee sponsors community events to support all facets of diversity at St. Andrew's and provide opportunities for parents and families to connect with one another. In addition to the two all-school events that we sponsor, we have ongoing informal gatherings for parents to network, inform, and get to know one another.

  1. Outreach Committee
    Working closely with the Head of School and the Chaplains, two chairpersons: one from the Upper School and one from the Lower/Middle School are needed to represent the Parent’s Council in community outreach. These chairpersons will be responsible for writing notes or contacting families in need (usually in the case of family lifecycle events such as birth, illness, etc.) Volunteers may be asked to prepare a meal or other task to help families in need of community.

  1. Fine Arts Support
    St. Andrew’s produces endless concerts, performances, and art shows. Our Fine Arts Faculty at all divisions can use help from time to time with the various events. Volunteers for Fine Arts Support will be called upon to help faculty as needed.

  1. Private School Interscholastic Association
    The PSIA is an opportunity for St. Andrew's lower and middle school students to compete with area private schools in a variety of academic challenges. Volunteers are needed to assist the lower and middle school faculty liaisons in the following areas: publicity, record keeping and mentoring competitors in speech, writing, math, science and art.

  1. GRADE LEVEL CLASSROOM PARENT

    The classroom parents:

    A. Coordinate grade level activities (class parties, parent gatherings, field trips, scrapbooks, photographs, teacher's needs)

    B. Attend monthly Parents' Council meetings and report pertinent information back to the classroom parents.

    C. Attend and assits at your grade level Parent Gathering and the Homecoming Picnic, and

    D. Uphold the goals set forth by the Parents' Council.
