E-9 Reading Survey - (block 2)

Welcome to ninth grade English! A substantial part of this course has to do with reading, analyzing and appreciating good literature. Since we’ll be spending so much time with words on the page, I want to know what kind of background you bring as a reader, what your individual reading style is, your likes and dislikes, your favorite books ever, and your goals as a reader for this year. The unique background that you bring to this class is important to me in thinking about our year to come, so spend some time tonight filling out this survey.

A red asterisk (*) indicates required questions.

  1. How much do you enjoy reading (assuming it's a book of your choice)?*
Ugh! It's the last thing I'd choose.
    Well, if I have to . .
    Only if nothing's on TV
Reading's OK, but it depends on the book.
    I usually enjoy reading.
I read whenever I can. Wish I had more time!

    I get absorbed easily.
    I'm easily distracted.
It really depends on the book.

  1. Walk around your home (anywhere but in your own room) and find the titles of at least three books that grab your attention. List them here. (It's OK if this is from memory, but don't just make these titles up. If you don't have books in your home, tell that.)*

  1. Tell Mr. Lewis something else you want to share about yourself as a reader or about your experience with literature in the past. Are there any particular hopes you have for this class? Any books you especially look forward to reading this year? Any questions for me? Put anything you'd like in this space, but include some response.*

  1. So, honestly and personally -- what did you think of the summer reading book Into the Wild? If you liked something about it, explain what stood out to you. If it wasn't your cup of tea, tell me specifically why to explain your response. If you're still finishing, tell me where you are and what you think so far (no bad consequences). Write a minimum of 100 words on this one.*
