2010-11 School-wide Goals

The WASC focus groups analyzed the academic performance of all student groups and have considered the effectiveness of key elements of our instructional programs for students failing to meet API and AYP growth targets. As a result, it will adopt the following school goals to raise the academic performance of student groups not meeting state standards:

  1. A. Organization
All departments should meet regularly (recommend weekly) for the purpose of department collaboration, discussion of data, teaching techniques and planning. School-wide, each department will meet after school Monday following the monthly Campus Leadership meeting. Common agenda items will address student data and teaching techniques in addition to regular department agenda items. Minutes will be kept and submitted to the principal.

    B. Curriculum
    1) All core classroom activities, including instruction, instructional support, and professional development and intervention programs will lead to students’ mastery of the California content standards as measured by formal and informal assessment. As a result, HHS will increase ELA CST and Math CST proficiency for all significant subgroups by 3%.
    2) All significant subgroups will increase the first time pass rate by 3% for CAHSEE in both math and English
    3) Hilmar High School will increase the AP pass rate by 10%

    C. Instruction
HHS teachers will continue to help students improve proficiency in state standards to meet or surpass state required goals. Teachers and administrators will continually assess performance using a variety of tools including data snapshots and administration walkthroughs:
    • In 90% of all classrooms visited, students will be able
to exhibit an understanding of lesson objectives
    • 90% of all classrooms will exhibit academic engagement
    • 90% of all classrooms will utilize checking for
    understanding during the lesson

    D. Assessment & Accountability
All educators will develop and implement a minimum of four standardized assessment / benchmark per course. Teachers will use this and other types of data to determine what needs to be re-taught and to target those students who need additional support.

    E. School Culture & Support
Hilmar High School’s goal is to employ a wide range of opportunities to encourage parental and community involvement with the teaching/learning process of students. To support this goal, HHS will:
    • Encourage all and target at least 45% of families to
    utilize AERIES Parental Portal
    • Increase the parent involvement representing all
significant subgroups participating in Back to School
    Night and Open House/Registration
    • Encourage more active participation in parent and
    community groups
    • Support and promote students, from all subgroups, to
be involved in extra-curricular and intra-curricular
    activities
