SPES Nominee for the 2010 HCPS Gilman Teacher of the Year Award
For the first time in Henrico County Public Schools, two awards with similar criteria will be combined. The Teacher of the Year Award and the Gilman Award will now be The Gilman Teacher of the Year. This change will allow each school to select one exemplary teacher and work through the application process. This is your invitation to nominate a teacher to be considered as Short Pump Elementary School's representative for the 2010 HCPS Gilman Teacher of the Year Award. The Henrico Education Foundation will sponsor the Gilman Teacher of the Year program this year. Their support means that the Gilman Teacher of the Year finalists (one from each magisterial district) will receive $500. The Gilman Teacher of the Year winner will receive $1,000. On May 10, 2010, all school-level winners, the finalists, and the countywide winner will be honored at a ceremony with members of the Foundation and the School Board. Nominees should be exceptionally skillful and dedicated teachers who plan to continue their careers and who have superior ability to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities. Only those who spend 80 percent of their time in classroom instruction and have five or more years of teaching experience (not necessarily all in Henrico) are eligible. A screening committee will select the Henrico County Gilman Teacher of the Year. Please submit your response no later than Wednesday, February 10.
