Animal Systems CDE Day (Concept)

No Cost: Any FFA member could participate in the online exam portions of the Animal Skills CDEs.

Chapter Fee: Teams that participate in the LIVE class judging day would need to pay the chapter fee.

Two separate proctored, online exams for each specific Animal Skills CDE:

1. General Livestock Knowledge Exam - one exam that ALL members would complete.
2. CDE Specific Exam

To compete for a state-level placing members would need to complete both 1 & 2 above, and the LIVE JUDGING CLASSES and REASONS.

Example: If a student wanted to compete in both Livestock and Dairy Cattle CDEs, they would need to take the following:

1. General Animal Knowledge (month or two before LIVE classes)
2. Livestock Production Exam (week or two before LIVE classes)
3. Dairy Production Exam (week or two before LIVE classes)
4. Judge LIVE Livestock classes and LIVE Dairy Cattle classes.
5. Complete Oral Reasons at LIVE classes day.

  1. Decreasing the number of SEPARATE days for Ag Skills CDEs...
may negatively impact the extended days of my contract.
would probably NOT impact the extended days of my contract.

  1. My contract is... (select closest answer)
9 months (less than 20 extended days)
    10 months
    11 months
    12 months

  1. My Ag Ed students...
More than 50% are children of livestock producers.
Less than 50% are children of livestock producers.
50% are and 50% are NOT children of livestock producers.

  1. Under this concept, the NUMBER of students exposed to enhanced learning opportunities about the Animal industry...
    will likely decrease.
    will likely be increase.
    will not be impacted significantly.

  1. If the time required to complete 5 separate exams is eliminated on the LIVE classes day, I agree it is feasible to complete multiple LIVE classes on the same day, at the same location, spread over the day.
    Yes
    No

  1. I like the potential of students completing the following live events on the same day at the same location.

Such as: Livestock judging, dairy cattle judging, horse judging, meats evaluation, and dairy products.

Students could potentially compete in more than one CDE, because the live judging classes could be spread over the day. For example, if a student wanted to compete in all 5 of the above events, it may be possible.
    Yes
    No

  1. "Team" Oral Reasons for ONE class ?

All chapter team members would present on one class "as a team". All members would be expected to participate the presentation. If one member hogged the presentation, the team score for the class may be decreased.

Another class or two would be presented individually, as we have forever.

I like this idea. (Save time, and kill multiple employment-skill-birds with one stone.)
    Yes
    No

  1. If saving time required us to decrease the number of classes per CDE area, that change would be ACCEPTABLE to me.

For example, maybe 4 classes rather than 6.
    Yes
    No

  1. In my opinion, the following LIVE classes could be spread out over the same day, at the same location:

    (Select all that apply.)
    Livestock CDE Judging Classes
    Dairy Cattle CDE Judging Classes
    Horse CDE Judging Classes
    Meats CDE Judging Classes
    Dairy Food CDE Judging Classes

  1. Currently, it is difficult for me to provide class instruction in the following: (select all that apply)
    Livestock Production and Management
    Horse Production and Management
    Dairy Production and Management
Meats Evaluation (i.e., view actual carcasses before CDE)
Dairy Foods Evaluation (Note: National FFA is eliminating the dairy equipment defects portion of the National CDE.)

  1. Select one: If ONE day, rather than SEVERAL days, the following length of day would be acceptable.

Note: A chapter would only need to stay for the whole time, if they have teams in each of the CDEs.

VERY ROUGH IDEA- the day could be something like:

8-10 am Dairy Cattle and reasons

    11-1 pm Livestock and reasons

3-5 pm: Horse classes and reasons

8 am - 7 pm: Meats and Dairy Foods Classes could be available "anytime" members of the SAME chapter team are available.

    8 am to 7 pm
    9 am to 8 pm
    10 am to 9 pm
Whatever it takes, it is OK if we need to stay overnight in a hotel.

  1. To save time and money, we should utilize no-travel options as much as possible.
    Yes
    No

  1. Teachers are more likely to stay in the profession, and have a happier life if we decrease time and travel requirements.
    Yes
    No

  1. I strongly value my weekends for time with my family.
    Yes
    No

  1. Exactly matching the National CDE is NOT critical because only 4 members advance to National. State winners should be expected to learn more.
    I strongly agree.
    I agree.
    I am neutral.
    I disagree.
    I strongly disagree.

  1. If maintaining the maintaining the current number of classes is critical to you, please explain why 6 classes is better than 8, 10, 12, or 4 ?

What is educationally critical about the current number of LIVE classes?

Note: "Tradition" may not be viewed as an educationally sound reason.

  1. If I do NOT take a team to a specific CDE, in a given year, it is primarily because...
