Officer Positions Survey
Officers - You have a decision to make for next year. For the last 7 years, our chapter has held positions for 8 officers - sometimes successfully - other times unsuccessfully. This is always an issue for the nominating committee to deal with and they look to me for input. My response in the past has been for the nominating committee to do what they think would be best for the chapter. This year, I am presenting the question to you as a current officer - to reflect on your experience as an officer and make a decision that will best serve the needs of our chapter. We have to have a minimum of 6 positions, according to the local, state and national constitutions. The offices of Historian, Parliamentarian, Chaplan and Student Advisor are optional positions for each chapter to decide. Our chapter can hold a maximum of 6 constitutional officers and 2 optional positions for a total of 8 - (mostly because 9 is the maximum number of people a suburban can carry, which is a concern for officer trainings/trips, etc). Our school and chapter still face budget issues and financially, having a large team does add expense to the chapter budget. However, we are busy, busy chapter and it's nice to have 8 people to share some of the work load and 8 people allows for more people to be active and serve. If you decide to reduce the number of officers, we could still have students serve as activity coordinators for certain events, which would also lighten the load of officer duties and responsibilities. I am neutral in this issue, because I see both the positives and negatives for each.) I ask that you do not make this decision lightly and take time to think about what would be best for our chapter and members. I ask that everyone votes, even if you will not be serving as an officer next year. The results of this survey will be passed along to the nominating committee in determining the officer slate for next year.
