  1. When a legal bill from Defense Counsel is received, the Claims Examiner should:
    Automatically pay it without review.
    Just cut 10% of the total to save legal expense.
    Review the bill to make certain the time and expenses are reasonable and appropriate.
    Pay it because the client selected the law firm. We don't have the power to cut the bill even if there are irregularities.


  1. A bill arrives from Defense Counsel with charges for two attorneys and one paralegal at one court conference. The Claims Examiner should:
    Cut those items out of the bill. More than one person should never charge for an event.
    Pay it. If counsel felt it necessary to have multiple people involved, the Examiner should not challenge it.
    Check to see if counsel asked and received permission to have multiple people attend. If so, pay the bill.
    Check to see how well connected the law firm is to the client. If they are, pay the items.

    Secretarial services
    Office overhead
    File review time if the lawyer who was handling the case quits the firm
