Honors Physics - SPRING 2011

Please offer your comments and suggestions on the honors physics course. I will use this information to continue to improve this class for next year. This survey is completely anonymous unless you include your name in any of the free response questions below.

A red asterisk (*) indicates required questions.

  1. Rank all the topics we've covered this semester from least difficult (1) to most difficult (7)*
        1 2 3 4 5 6 7
    Carnival Physics
    Particle Physics
    Waves and Sound
    Light and Optics
    Electricity and Circuits
    Magnetism
    Modern Physics

  1. Rank all the topics we've covered so far from most enjoyable (1) to least enjoyable (7)*
        1 2 3 4 5 6 7
    Carnival Physics
    Particle Physics
    Waves and Sound
    Light and Optics
    Electricity and Circuits
    Magnetism
    Modern Physics

  1. Which of the following topics would you like to have spent more time on / done more labs on, if any?*
    Carnival Physics
    Particle Physics
    Waves & Sound
    Light & Optics
    Electricity & Circuits
    Magnetism
    Modern Physics
    None of these

  1. What do you think would help you understand difficult concepts better? Select all that apply.*
More time spent on going over the packet, lecture style + fewer labs
More labs + less time going over practice problems and the practice test
More time going over labs in class + less time going over the packet
More time going over homework in class + less time spent on the practice test
More of a setup like AP Physics, where there is very little lecture and we work through the packets ourselves in groups
I don't see a choice I like here, I'll address this in the additional comments at the end of the survey

  1. The level of homework in this class is*
    not enough
    just right
    too much

  1. The level of difficulty of the homework was*
    not difficult enough
    just right
    too difficult

  1. The style of homework, where it is given all at once and collected during the test is*
not rigid enough, I'd prefer set problems given every class and reviewed the next class
    I like this method
I'd prefer to do the practice test at home as well as the homework
I'd prefer doing everything on my own: the packet, practice test and homework. No time spent in class going over this.
I like this method after the change mid-semester where cycle sheets included which problems we could work on early

  1. Do you think having the answers to the homework/packet posted the day or two before the test is a good idea?*
Yes, I use it to check my work after I do all the problems
Yes, I use it as I am doing my work, not necessarily afterwards
Yes, I don't feel I need to do the homework or packet to do well on tests but I want to get credit for it
    No, I don't use it
No, I don't think most people use it properly

  1. What helps you prepare for the tests? Check all that apply.*
    The packet
    The book
    The practice test
    The homework
    The labs
    My peers
    Class FB page
    Asking questions via email

  1. How useful was the class website at fizzixprof.com?*
    Very useful
    Moderately Useful
    Somewhat useful
    Not at all useful

  1. Did you feel that the group tests were beneficial to you? What did you like or not like about them? How would you suggest they be changed for next year?*

  1. Did you enjoy working on projects in this class? What did you like about the 4 projects:
Sem1 - Teaching Energy to the 7th grade
Mini project 1 - Carnival Physics
Mini project 2 - Particle Physics
    Sem2 - Particle Detector Research + Poster

What suggestions do you have for projects next year? *

  1. If you had to offer advice to a student who was taking this class next year, what would you say? How would you suggest the student succeed? *

  1. What were the highlights of the course for you this year?*

  1. What were the most frustrating aspects of the course this year?*

  1. Any additional comments?
