Teacher Self-Assessment for Guided Reading

Name

  1. Materials: My goal is to have all necessary materials organized and accessible for use during the lesson.
Books and other materials are at a beginning point in terms of acquisition and organization. I am just learning about how to keep records of reading behavior and how to use response journals.
I have a leveled collection of books but it is minimal and not adequate for the needs of my class. I have some other materials but they are not yet organized. I know about record keeping and response journals but am not yet using them.
I have a leveled set fo books and I am using it. I have easels, white boards, paper, markers, etc. ready for use. I am just beginning to use some form of response journal. I am beginning to keep running records.
A leveled, well-organized, and tested collection of books exists and is ready for use. I have an area for guided reading with easels, white boards, paper, markers, and other materials. My students know how to use journals and reading logs. I have a well-organized, usable record keeping system.

  1. Management: My goal is to engage students in productive reading/writing while I am working with groups and conferring with individuals during the reading block.
I have not yet established a system for independent reading; students need a great deal of attention and I cannot work productively with small groups.
I have begun to teach students how to engage in silent independent reading but the routines are not yet established. I am beginning to establish a schedule that will allow for independent work while I teach small groups and work with individuals.
My system for independent reading is well established and I am conferring with individuals. Students are beginning to use response journals. I am beginning work with guided reading groups on a regular basis.
My classroom is well managed during the entire reading block. Students are engaged in silent independent reading and/or writing in response journals. They work in a completely independent way. I meet with guided reading groups on a regular schedule and have time to confer with individuals.
