VCE Data Analysis
Feedback from HoDs and SSTs on the VCE 2010 results. Use of this survey will enable more consistent reporting on HoD/SST perceptions.

- Report 8A: Identify all significant features of this table (such as relative performance of Year 11 students or of particular classes).
You should have time series data on particular teachers over the past number of years. Identify any relevant features of this time series data.

- Report 8B: Identify all significant differences between the various assessments that warrant attention.

- Report 9: Identify all significant time-related trends evident in this report that warrant attention or action.

- Report 12: These predictions of expected performance are based on GAT results and some other factors (such as student gender). They do not take proper account of very strong students or of very hard working students.
Nonetheless they are useful for stimulating discussions about relative performance from year to year. Note also that the 'error' bars indicate that the exact position of the 'point' is less significant than the range and overlap. What are the implications for your department for this year and beyond? You may find that the same data for English (included in your 'package') a useful comparison, given that a large percentage of the Year 12 cohort does English.

- Reports 13 and 14: These reports are a more detailed look at the performance of the class of 2010, compared to the GAT-based predictions (discussed in the preamble to Question 12).
Identify any class-based features here worthy of attention or action.

- Report 17: In some ways this is the most useful of all the reports, as it displays the GAT-based predictions for each student. Heads of Department/Senior Subject Teachers should go through this report with each class teacher, noting results where the prediction and the actual mark are significantly different.
Identify any features of these results (such as engagement with the work - or lack of it, determination to succeed, regular seeking of help, other factors), and comment on changes that teachers in your department could make this year.
