  1. Ever since I was little i've always wanted to know how things work. I would always break things apart to see what was inside what made then go, unfortunately,i wasn't able to put them back together. As i've grown my thirst for knowledge has only grown greater. The subjects i want to learn more about have only become broader. Although my heart does seem to go straight to the medical/ behavorial science field. Learning about the human brain and body fasinates me. That's why i think this STEMinar progam sounds like an amazing oppurtunity for me. It will help me get a leg up on my career choice once i graduate. I really want to go into the forensic science field. My longing for knowledge isnt just fit into the medical field though. MicroB, astronomy, and engineering have also caught my eye. Again i repeat myself,i just want to learn more about them, I may even want to go into another career after this STEMinar. All those reasons are why i really want to go to this STEMinar.May the mass times acceleration be with you!

I am looking into several programs, such as STEMinar, for activities in my areas of interest to help ready myself for future opportunities in college, in the work force, and any other situation that may be helped by these programs. I would really like to join this particular program because it seems to have the resources necessary for it to be a productive session, and I think this could be a great experience that can really help me later in life. I am very interested in the field of civil engineering and architecture. I believe that any and all conventions like STEMinar can be helpful to give me a leg up in the field as well as the people I will meet in these kinds of events.

    The kinds of people met here and later are necessary connections in a social field such as civil engineering. It will be a fun experience to meet new people that enjoy the same kind of subjects as myself as well as learn new things from them and perhaps teach some people new things in exchange.

    Overall It is mostly the experience of a convention such as this and the values learned there are what will be kept for later in life. This could truly be a life changing and advancing trial to help myself and others in the fields of future jobs.

  1. I would like to mention to you that since the age of 7 years old, I swore to myself to grow up and become a successful pharmacist! I remember sitting in the backseat of my car, as we were on our way home after picking up my mom from the pharmacy, saying in Korean, ‘I’m going to be a pharmacist like mom. And I’m never going to change my answer.’ And to this day, I still would like to assert that I’m never going to change my answer. As I have watched my mom, who is also a pharmacist, work underneath a white gown, providing a patient with the necessary medications and prescriptions, I saw and found the job to be a very respectful occupation. Not only was it beneficial to patients, but it was also beneficial to everyday life, knowing the C of existence and the dangers and benefits of implementing medicine into human bodies. I want to grow up being knowledgeable about the human body, the known issues, and the possible solutions. Of course, these thoughts didn’t come to me when I was just seven years old. Instead, I began to realize more and more when I was a freshman in High School. With a fantastic and reverent B teacher, I learned and I dove into the studies of the processes of life. I loved it. I was so happy that I loved the biological aspects of science and life because I knew that it would highly benefit my journey in becoming a pharmacist. From then on, I slowly began to glide my interests deeper into the field of medicine and health.

    I, by no means, have the extraordinary credentials to exemplify that I am more than ideal to have the brains in attending an elite coalition of brilliant students. But one thing I am absolutely certain is that I have the full ambition to learn and really understand life and research beyond the classroom and beyond the trite buildings and streets of my community. My greedy desire to make an experience with scientific research and studies tends to tell me that I have deprived myself of previous opportunities to discover and study science. I aspire to do JSHS this coming school year and I believe that STEMinars will significantly broaden my spectrum of science and will boost me up in my ongoing experiences.

    As I complete my final year in SAHS, I have a desire to become an opportunist and take every chance to discover and enhance my knowledge and know-how of the fields that I find fascinating as well as the fields that I have never stumbled upon so far. Discovery and research is a priceless and valuable thing. I want to experience discovery through STEMinars. I would be absolutely honored to work in a privileged environment in the STEMinars with elite professors and leaders in Japan that I could look up to and respect. One more thing that I would like you to know about me is that I love pressure. Actually, I don’t necessarily LOVE it but I do enjoy it. Pressure excites my brain and uses up more of the potential that I have. STEMinars, to me, is like a train or opportunity that comes every so often in life. I want to pass the yellow line and be able to ride on the train. The train that I know is coming my way.   1. I would like to go to STEMinar to further learn more about science, math and engineering. Those three are my strong points in education. I would like to go to colleges and major in related fields. I am really interested in engineering. I got 2nd place in the Dodea pacific bridge building contest and currently taking (school year 2011-12) APCALC and took an archetecturaly drawing class. Although I have many interest, I am currently looking at becoming an aerospace engineer. To acconplish this, I have signed up for a MWR scholarship camp to a space camp this summer. I believe this STEMinar will prepare me for my future choices and help me understand exactly I want. I am also looking forward to learning new stuff about science, technology, engineering, and math.   1. STEMinar interests me because of the wide variety of math and sciences that I can learn to help myself to understand what I really want to do when I get out of high school. Ever since I was young, I have wanted to be in the math and science fields as a part of my career, mainly either to become an engineer or a part of the medical department. I feel that the STEMinar will give me a wider aspect in math and science to give me knowledge of what I am getting myself into in the future, and to be ready for what is to come as I advance further through math and science. Being able to learn even more about these two subjects out of school will help me understand more than I can learn in the minimum amount of time I get at school. I want to gain knowledge in these fields as much as I possibly can to see the depth of how technology or even life works. I feel that the STEMinar will help me find what I really would want to do with my life, whether it be saving people's lives first hand or through technology

  1. I am not quite sure what I want to go into when I get to college, but one thing is for sure, I want to go into something concerning math/science. I have always been good with math, and I love working with math problems because they challenge me, and I am all for good challeging education. Science is definitly a close second when it comes to my favorite subject. So far in high school I have only taken PA, and B, but i have loved both. I am more into P and C than I am B however, but DNA and the way organisms coinhabit our world is still fascinating to me. STEMinars seems to be a good place to find out exactly what in Science and math interests me because it seems to be more hands-on then what i get in my everyday classes. In middle school I did many hands on projects, like dissecting a fetal pig for a B lesson, and making a model rollar coaster of my own design, just out of paper and tape, for a P lesson. These both were some of the best, and most memorable lessons, and in a way inspired me to go into a science field in my future. STEMinars seems to be another inspiring place, to help me figure out exactly what my future in science should be. I am honored just to have the oppurtunity to apply to a incredible experience that STEMinars should be.

  1. I would like to attend STEMinars because i have an interest in Aeronautical Engineering. I would like to major in Aeronautical Engineering at the Naval Academy.This would be a good experience for me. I am new to Kinnick but i am interested in doing a JSHS project and being at the STEMinar would help me a lot. Math and science interests me a lot. I am taking two sciences next year because i love science. The way things work interests me; especially airplanes. I would love to explore Aeronautical Engineering.

  1. When I was a little kid I've always had a heart for helping people. I feel like STEMinar would help me step up and learn more about medicine and life sciences. I feel that this oppurtunity is a once in a life time and there should be no reason for me to miss it. Even though I haven't taken C, HA, or health sciences in highschool , I feel like this would be a GREAT beginning to my dream in becoming a nurse. I really want to make a difference in my community, make a difference in the world. And I feel as if it starts with a little spark, a spark leading to success. Sometimes I feel as if I'm not qualified in this subject of science or medicine, but I'm willing to do my best in something I've always had a desire for. I would really like to attend the medicine part of STEMinar and explore the begining of my career. It starts here. If it doesn't there are many oppurtunities for me else where.. but having the chance to meet others interested in the same things would be such a precious time for me. Something I could take with me for the rest of my life, to tell my friends family and even chidren. I wish to make a memory that would help me to push through, to remember what got me here, and to just enjoy the work I really want to do in the future. This is my dream, I've always had a heart for the poor, the hurt, and unwanted. God has put that desire in my heart, and I would really like this oppurtunity to get to learn more about this.   1. The reasons I want to attend the STEMinars is to gain a better understanding of different science topics. Being so far North in Japan and having a small school population, my school is very limited on the amount of courses it can offer. If a class does not have enough students signed up to take a class, that class will be cut. This was going to happen to the P class for next year, but due to a dedicated teacher, they will now be offering it next year. It is a shame to lose classes just because we simply to do not enough students to fill up the required number, due to the small amount of students at the school. I believe going to the STEMinars would be very beneficial for me, so that I might start to broaden my knowledge of STEM topics, which is very difficult to do at this present time. I believe this will be very helpful for me because when I am older, I hope to become a veterinarian. Before this school year, I had given u on my childhood dream because I was losing my interest in science and have never been very good in math, but this year, I had many wonderful teachers to rekindled my love for science and have made me for successful in math. Even a teacher, whom I currently do not have, made me excited about taking an engineering class next year. With this group of very supporting teachers, which also includes my English and History teacher, I am more confident than ever in my future career choice. The only thing that continues to worry me is my lack of knowledge in the medical profession. I am also very interested in behavioral sciences. I have little knowledge of where this love of the human mind (and the minds of any other being) came from, but I would love to explore it further. Because my school schedule for my final year in high school is filled, I feel this will be my only opportunity to learn about this topic. I really wish to attend the ‘Medicine & Health’ and ‘Behavirol Sciences’ portions of the STEMinars most of all for these reasons.I am highly motivated very eager to attend the STEMinar program!

  1. There are many reasons why I would like to attend STEMinars. The main reason is because my favorite subject is math, and I would like to pursue a career in this field. In addition, I am very interested in technology, as I like to know how things work, especially with the recent developments. I have signed up for a robotics course for the upcoming school year, and I feel like this may help me, as I am new to the subject. As for science, I have been increasingly interested in diseases, new medicine and treatement, and space, especially the possibility of habitable planets. I also enjoy reading about how technology helps disabled people, such as machines that help allow people to walk again. I would really like to attend the STEMinars because I feel that it will give me a start in some of my high school and college courses, as well as my future career.

  1. I would like to attend STEMinars because it is a good opportunity for me to get a feel of how it's like in a lab. When I am older, I am planning on going to college to study Forensics. I think this event will help me get ready for a future in science. I am also looking forward to the hands-on activities which I know will be exciting. Math and Science are my best and favorite subjects and I think I would have lots of fun and learn a lot from attending this STEMinar. I feel that this will make me love Math and Science even more, making me want to pursue my future in Forensics even more.   1. Well, why not’ I like to analyze things on a molecular level, knowing how things get from one place to another, and eventually solving the problem I was set out to do. Science has always been fun, and so has math, and excelling in both is what I do best. Along with my exponential background in alot of other subjects, appling my knowledge to something like a JSHS project is ideal to find out just what I know, and what I am made of. Doing these "steminars", I find, will help me in growing with my vast knowledge. My curiosity is at an all time high, and i would like to be satisfied with science!

  1. Well, my brother has influenced me in science, and my curiosity for science is great. But my true Love is math, I have exceeded what I have wanted to reach at my grade level (as an 8th grader). I will currently be taking pre-calculus as a freshman in highschool, and the steminar program is a great oppotunity for me to grow in the science and math realm. Also JSHS sounds very interesting as well, but I fisrt need to prove my true intellect as a student of science, as I have done for math. I thank you for the opportunity and look forward to my future in my relationship with math and science.

I was very interested in STEM after I learned about it and I am quite interested in continuing to rise up.   1. I am interested in this program because this is an opportunity to learn more about the many different branches science. I am a strong student in B and math, and I feel that this is a great opportunity for me to learn of the many venues of science, and perhaps get an introduction to the many job opportunities I may consider in my future.



    In the 9 I worked hard to maintain between a 3.6 and 4.0 grade point average throughout the year. In my ninth grade year I was elected the class secretary, and was able to maintain my grades, and complete my job.





    My future plans include taking a closer look at the teaching profession. In my eleventh grade year I plan on taking a higher level science course, and I have every intention on competing in the upcoming science fair. I also believe that the is a great opportunity to get ahead in my learning of B, and explore Japanese culture. I am chosen I will be happy to volunteer with anything to help out the group, and prove to you all that I am a worthy candidate, thank you.

As a student who has taken AP ES, participated in Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), and will be taking APCALC BC next school year, it is safe to say that math and science are my fortes and passion. Every aspect of research’from calculating the integral of a function rotated on a Cartesian plane to measuring the primary productivity of herbaceous plants’invigorates my thirst for knowledge.

    I would like to attend STEMinar, because it is the epitome of my interest. If accepted, STEMinar will be the crest of my journey in exploring practical solutions to the problems the world faces today. I am princpally fascinated in ES, Green Technology, Medicine and Health, and Applied Mathematics. As a human being that shares the earth with other life, I am drawn to investigating fields that produce pragmatic solutions through technology.

    I hope that through STEMinar, I can learn more about my fields of interest and even meet an expert who is already combating crisis with math and science. Especially since I plan on pursuing a career in these fields, I would like to attend STEMinar in order to gain a first-hand experience of what technology is and how it is applied.

  1. I believe the future depends on technology. I want to be part of that advancement that is changing and making a difference in the world. I think that attending this STEMinar will be the first step in putting me on that track. Learning more about a field gives you an advantage over others that are competing in this wide field. Attending this STEMinar will help me narrow down the possibilities that I may devote myself to. During 2012-2013, I am considering on working on a JSHS project. Though I don’t have specific details, I have a question in mind. Also to help myself, I am attending an engineering camp hosted by the Seabees Navy. Mathematics has always been my favorite subjects, because unlike history or literature, it makes perfect sense. There are so many possible ways to solve a question, and memorization is not strongly required. I feel that engineering is the career I want to pursue in.

  1. As of right now, I would like to be a veterinarian or other medical doctor when I grow up. I believe that through learning more in these science fields, I can gain more knowlege that will help me in the future. Being only a freshman, I haven't taken very many science or technology classes, so I would love to learn more in these areas. Math has always been one of my strongest subjects, and I would be interested in growing even more in this subject and any others offered. B and anatomty have always been interesting to me, and I would be very greatful for the opportunity to learn more about these and other areas that can help me in the future.

    I am interesting in doing a JSHS project this year and think it is a good first step. My goal is to learn more about different types of engineering throughout high school, and learn the fundamentals of engineering. Engineering is my #1 goal as a post graduate of high school, to find a long term career. A career in engineering is key for me, to become succesful and have a well understanding of how technology works, so i'm able to do things on my own.

  1. I firmly believe that this opportunity will grant me some inspiration and guidance for my JSHS project and career. This summer, I'm attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, and I hope that these STEMinars will further develop my interests in either the medical or engineering fields. My favorite courses in school are in mathematics, science, and engineering, and I hope that these STEMinars can help me apply the skills I already have and teach me new topics to spark my interest. I would like to be exposed to more scientific ideas so that I can decide what I will major in college and perhaps decide in part what I want to have as a career. Currently, I am finishing a Engineering Design and Technology course in my high school, but I feel that I have not been exposed enough to engineering specialties such as electrical and biological engineering, both of which I am considering for my major in college. I would also like to be exposed to more computer science and P topics because I have not been able to take any of these specific types of courses as of now. I thirst for knowledge, and I hope that these STEMinars will provide me with a tall glass full of it.

  1. I want to attend STEMinars because I have an interest in different sciences. I especially want to know more about Health, Astronomy, and Medicine. I think this will be a good way to discover the sciences I truly enjoy, and the ones I don't really care for. The seminars will also help me in my future Anatomy and P classes in high school. This will help me on MIT school applications if I choose to apply. I really just want to learn more about each of the categories. I think this will be a great experience, and a fun one.

  1. I'm really interested in Medicine and Health sciences and HA. I want to become a physical therapist, so I think these STEMinars will help me understand these areas for future classes. As for Astronomy and HAP, I really want to learn more about these subjects. I have always taken an interest in Space and the planets. I think ES and Green technology can really help me with future NHS projects. Plus who doesn't want to learn more about our planet and how we can fix the problems that harm it’! And lastly, I think the STEMinars will be a great experience and the University will give me a feel for college. I think it will be a lot of fun!

  1. Science has been THE favorite subject in my entire school life. It started when I was a kindergarten. I was playing with my friends when I saw a pretty, little, butterfly who was flying over the bed of flowers, and it made me think, how does such thing differ so much from any other living thing’ And since then, I've been more than interested in science, and the butterfly was just the beginning.



    Science is one of the most enjoyable, full of work subject. It is a mixture of math, english and science itself. Also, it is not only an ordinary class but is also a class that will fill you up with more sophisticated questions after answering one, like what my teacher told me before "As we grow up, we learn new things and become smarter, but at the same time we are filled with more sophisticated questions" and that's why I love science, because it not only challeneges both physical and supernatural things, but it also challenges my ability to think outside the box.



    I would love to attend the Far East STEM becasue I strongly believe that attending this particular event will not only enrich me with knowledge, but it will also introduce me and open up my doors to future success. My goal in life is to be a cardiothorasic surGEOn, and fulfill my promise to my bilogical mother that someday I'm gonna be a doctor, and will be helping others without expecting something in return.



    My B teacher asked me twice now, If I want to do a research for JSHS this upcoming year because he said I am capable of doing a very good one. At first I douBTEed myself, that maybe I'm not good enough and I don't want to dissappoint my family and my entire school, but then I thought about it and looked closely on what I would loose if the research wouldn't be sucessful, and I said to myself, Why am I putting myself down’ why do I think of the negative things, so what if my research wouldn't be a successful and an awesome research like what others have’ at least I would/did it and I would/did my best, and then I realized, I wouldn't loose anything, that I would be gaining something, not only kowledge, but also experience, and as of now, I'm still on the process of deciding on what issue/problem I can do a research on.



    Science is a big part of my life and it will always be a part of it, and I would do my best to achieve my goal in life.

Science, math, and engineering are fields with so much potential for growth, but very little workforce for it, and I would like to open that possibility to myself and other people like me. I think attending the STEMinars would help that because it would make my applications to colleges more convincing, because they could see that I am as eager and passionate about majoring in engineering as I say.   1. I have been interested in the feild of math and science for a long time. I enjoy many different parts of math and science that I have studied so far. I enjoy doing things with math and science, including computer programming, in my free time. I have learned about computer programming this year with my brother, who is also interested in computer programming. I really love learning how and why things work in computers and learning how to do useful things with them. I like doing experiments to find out more about math and science. Every time I learn something new about math or science, I get very excited and start looking for ways I can apply this knowledge. I like finding out about why and how things work.   1. There are many reasons to which I would like to attend STEMinars. As I have a true passion for mathematics and science, many of these academic fields seem to catch my interest very easily. I would like to pursue my career in the mathematics and scientific field, and this experience can help me in the future, help me to learn more about each of the STEM fields, and makes a college application look even better! However, the main reason that I would like to attend the 2012 Far East STEMinars is to help me decide what I really want to do for the rest of my life. I’ve heard many times that you shouldn’t look for a job, but a career, something that catches your interest, and something you would look forward to doing every single day. You should find an occupation that is both rewarding and enjoyable. For me, however, I have not found a career that really ‘sparks my interest.’ I’ve chosen a path, but have not found the ‘final destination.’ With this program, I hope to be able to get closer to what I want to do. With the many different interesting STEMinars available, such as engineering and P, one however, leaves me curious to learn more about, the medicine and health field. Many adults have encouraged me to work in this field, even though I’ve never known what it’s truly all about. With this opportunity, I will be able to research all the different STEMinars and learn the specialties in each and every one of them. In the near future, I hope to find a career possibly in these fields. Learning more about all these different STEMinars will help me discover my true passion!

    With these STEMinars, I hope to get an idea of what I would like to do after college. I believe this experience will open my mind to all the different fields of study, narrowing down my search for the right career, which is my ultimate goal. As this program specifies in the mathematics and scientific studies, in which I would like to follow, I would really enjoy undergoing this experience, researching the different fields.   1. I first heard about JSHS at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year when one of my teachers gave me a packet with the Far East activities. One of the activities on the list was JSHS, which caught the attention of my friend, and eventually me. I have always enjoyed science, and more recently, math. I felt that this would further my education and my options for the future, so I wanted to try it. Then I eventually forgot about it until June, when I signed up for this. I don’t really any knowledge-based advantage in any particular area of science, but I am very interested by technology and astronomy, and how they work. I think it’s amazing how on a small planet in a small solar system can have life, and create these marvelous objects out of the planet for our use. It’s also interesting hearing about these alien planets ranging from our familiar terrestrial and gas giants, to planets that are made of diamonds and ice. I think that these STEMinars will help me go further in my knowledge in these subjects, and will help me pick a career that may help people in the future. Then again, who knows if they will abuse it or not; many creations have been used for other purposes besides their intended ones. However, I hope we’re not foolish enough to do it, but I know it’s only in human nature.

  1. I am interested in attending STEMinars because I have always hade a passion for engineering and ways to help the environment. This is my first time applying for a Far Ease trip because I have not found one I’m really interested in until now. It would be an honor if you accept me into this program I feel it would give me a leg up on engaging further in my learning in these areas. I’m not really sure what to write I’m passionate about this for sure; I have wanted to be a Marine Biologist ever since I was a little kid. However now I want to be able to help by creating and building the equipment that they use. Robotics is something that I have always been interested in, I love to build things and find new ways to make things work. I havent done much in the science department, but this year I have taken a liking to it. I loved my earth and space science class. I also feel like attending Steminars would help me understand technology and engineering better than I do now. I've loved science and engineering since eighth grade, when I did a science fair project on the effects of colored overlays on reading speeds and made it to Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Level Science Fair and placed second. This project had opened my eyes to the amazing world of STEM. I want to attend STEMinars because I am planning on studying engineering once I graduate. This summer I am taking engineering courses at Stanford University, and I would like learn even more about STEM topics at the STEMinars. In February, I attended Mathematica Fest. I had an amazing time at Mathematica Fest and I think STEMinars would be just as much fun. I really just love science and math and engineering and technology. I've researched Tsukuba and it looks like a really cool city. I would be interested in doing a JSHS project, but I am not sure how much time I will have to do a thorough project and present it, as I am going to be a senior.

  1. The reason why I am interested in the STEMinar program is because I am highly interested in the engineer job career. I find this to be a perfect oppertunity for me to explore the different fields of engineering because as of right now I am not sure what type of engineering I would like to follow in my life. STEMinar is also a perfect chance for me to possibly get an experience and a taste of different fields of engineering that I hope to find as my vocation. I may be planning on doing a JSHS some time in my high school years so this is a good first step to help me get a start on that. The program seemed really fun, and I knew it would help me in the fufture, whether it is applying for college or a school program. One of my possible future careers I am considering is to be a scientist, and this program will introduce me to what I can do if I ever become a scientist.   1. Well, at first, I didn't know what STEM was. I heard the name last year, but it never really caught my attention. This year, I finally understood what STEM meant, and it contained most of what I want to do in my career path. I'm considering to be an Engineer, I like math, and also Science. When an opportunity to be able to spend a week in a university working with professors and students that have a career in these fields, I wanted to try this Stem seminar out. I want to see first hand what my future career would feel like by working with other people. This is my first time going on a trip like this by myself during school and I want to try this experience out in order to know what exactly what I want to do in these fields or get an idea on what I want to do exactly.

Science happens to be my favorite subject since I could remember (it is the only subject I do well on), and I really want to learn about gaming technology and robotics. It is one of my options as a career for my future, and I believe this could help me a lot. If I were to attend, it would be my first Far East event. To be honest, I'm sort of a shut-in and I prefer staying home rather than going travelling, but this time I decided to give it a chance. Knowing that the world is deteriorating, from deforestation to pollution in the air and water to a heavy, burdening population, moves me to know more about the world's predicaments and to go further and seek solutions to these issues. By attending STEMinars, I will be able to explore environmental technologies that are available or being developed. I am also interested in learning more about behavioral sciences because I've always loved helping people, especially my friends, reach their personal goals and make them, basically, happy. By studying in this field, I can help people even more.     Yes, I would like to attend the STEMinars to learn and be familiar with the Science and Technology process. This will also further enhance and apply what I have already learned in my classes. I am very much interested in doing the JSHS project this year just like couple of years ago when I was selected and was sent to compete with the other DoDEA students in Sckuba, Japan. It was a very pleasant and challenging competition. By joining this STEMinars, I feel with my experience and the expectations from the judges that I can do a better project.


    Bringing back the things I've experienced from JSHS before was the most wonderful thing that happened to me. I've shared so many things that I've learned to my fellow classmates, and I will do it again if I qualify.

Because I am a freshman, I have not had the chance to take many science or engineering classes, butI have recently been playing with the idea of becoming an engineer later in life.   1. Even before STEM came out, I have been interested in the fields STEM focuses on and have always been studying the math and sciences more than I have in any other subjects. So a week of STEMinar’ Perfect for me. I am also hoping to learn more about different places STEM is used in the world, such as jobs, and open up my options on what I would like to do in the STEM area in the future. College wise, I would like to go to Purdue University and study biomedical engineering, so this would be a great opportunity to learn more on the area of engineering, C, and B.

  1. I'm not absolutely sure why I want to attend the STEMinars myself, to be honest. I think It's for a multitude of reasons. I’m heavily interested in Science, including medicine, behavior, technology, and astronomy. Ever since I was a child, I’ve wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Attending these programs would mean a lot to me, as many of the courses I would be able to learn about are not offered at my school. I believe that attending this STEMinar course will help me discover new opportunities and allow me to participate in activities that otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do firsthand. Another reason I want to go is because I am interested in JSHS, and going would help me tremendously. What this program offers is very interesting, because it allows people like me to pursue career options and dreams.

  1. I really enjoyed JSHS and i like most sciences and have really looked forward to this ever since my teacher told me about it last year after JSHS. I have always been interested in science and math and this just seems like my cup of tea if you will. i am looking to get a career in P. Science fuels me and i get excited when talking about it. I really like P but I’ve never heard of gaming technology and that looks really interesting too or the robotics and behavioral sciences, if i could i could take the time and sign up for each of the things listed on the past sheet if I could. Gaming technology sounds very interesting and it has peaked my interest because a friend of mine has talked about making his own game.

  1. I would like to attend the SARA program to gain some experience in the fields of STEM. I excel in math and science, and I'm interested in developing technologies. I would love the opportunity to complete a long term engineering project.

    I want to become an engineer to help people. I live in Miura, Japan, about 260 km south of the crippled Fukushima Daichi nuclear plant. the tradgedy of the crippled plant has affect the entire country. Last summer, this region experienced rolling blackouts, and took major strides to cut their energy consumption. Efforts to conserve energy will be continued, as the loss of the nuclear plants has severely limited Japan's energy resources. I want to develop new technoligies, and inovations to help conserve energy.

    I would also like to attend to share my perspectives with other students. I have found that as an American growing up in Japan, I have gained unique approach to controversial problems. I am thrilled at the opportunity to research and study with Japanese students and professors. Living in Japan, I know first-hand that the country is on the cutting edge of new innovations. Getting the chance to perhaps work on new discoveries would be simply amazing. I would also enjoy the opportunity to practice my Japanese, which I have been studing for five years.

    I feel I would make an excellent addition to the SARA team.

  1. I will be a senior next year and my hopes for the future are some what clouded. I have great interest in engineering and is one of the only areas im interested in. I did JSHS once before in middle school in my 8th grade year. This experience would help me alot and assist in my decision making for my future. An oppertunity like this is exactly what I need to get engaged and jump back into the science world. It would be nice to go to Tskuba city again. I really enjoyed all the science that was going around in the city but to see it again and with different goals would be amazing. I partook in STEM Week at my school and created a form of bridge out of cardboard and dowels. It was to be a concept idea for a 55mile bridge going across the Berring Straight. I am also enrolled in JROTC at my school and I hope to have a military background in my future. A military personel who works with technology like planes and stuff really sounds good. I need to figure out what to do with my future and time is running out. I hope these STEMinars help me.

I plan to attend a good university, and complete a degree in the medical field. I start at a small disadvantage as a military dependant, and one child in a family with seven children.   1. I love science. This can be shown through my taking of two science courses during my sophomore year: C and HA. I love science because I believe it is one of the most basic concepts of life. I love learning about how things work, because in one way or another, you'll find connections everywhere you look.



    That being said, I wish to go to the 2012 Far East STEM and Research Academy because I feel it is going to help me decide which road I want to take later in life. My passion for science is undeniable, but there are too many paths to choose from. I hope that the Far East STEM and Research Academy can give me an idea of what many different scientific careers are like, and I hope that this experience will help me start preparing for a career at an early age.   1. As a student, I do not attend many Far East events as I am not really athletically gifted and tend to be more intellectually inclined. As such, this particular Far East event, or STEMinar, greatly appeals to my academic mindset. This is the only event I know of in which an opportunity is present to see and experience cutting edge technology and meeting people who are serious about solving problems. And not just the trivial things seen on bland worksheets in the classroom but actual, real life, pressing issues in scientific fields. This is a chance for me to gain some experience I would not ever have the chance to receive even in college. This whole potential experience would be extremely opportune for me as well seeing as I one day aspire to become a forensic anthropologist.



    Subjects such as Life and ES, Medicine and Health and Behavioral science would fit perfectly into such an aspired role. The other offered fields such as Earth and Space science, Engineering, P and Astronomy, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Gaming technology all happen to be fields of interest to me on a more intimate level merely for personal satisfaction as I am the type of individual who thirsts constantly for knowledge and is always striving to learn as much as I can in any individual area. What is also really exciting for me is the opportunity to develop a professional relationship with a mentor in my field of interest, that specifically being medicine and health.



    Developing a professional relationship with a mentor would teach me how to work professionally with others, especially those who will inevitably be more knowledgeable than I in my own fields of study. Also, this will be a relationship to fall back on later in life if I am ever to require the assistance of a more objective mind regarding case studies. I think, of all the things that STEMinars offer, it would be this particular relationship that is most appealing to me. To be mentored by a professional to whom I could fall back on if ever the case may require is certainly an idea most appealing and something I project not many specialists possess later in life.



    Overall, I am quite passionate about science, particularly the subjects being offered at this projected Far East event. I look forward to developing a professional relationship with a mentor in my own field of study, Medicine and Health, as well as the potential experience to be gained by such endeavors that will subsequently aid me later in life.   1. As I finish my ninth grade year and prepare to become a sophomore, I am beginning to put more thought into what I would like to pursue as a career. I have always done well in all of my subjects, but I enjoy studying things that make me use my mind rather than just learning facts. That is why I have begun to consider studying engineering. The combination of science and math that's involved appeals to me. Because I am also somewhat interested in the arts, I am considering studying architecture instead of engineering. As is probably now apparent, I am still undecided. When I heard about the chance to attend the STEMinars, I was excited. This will be the perfect chance because I will learn more about what engineering really is while experiencing the type of classes in college.   1. Hello. My name is Jisue Jeong and I am currently attending SAHS. I have participated in JSHS since the 8th grade, which was the first year the program was available to students, and have continued to participate since then. Unfortunately, I was not able to make a lot of progress my sophomore year because I failed to come up with an idea I could work with. However, in my freshmen year, I was very successful and I won 2nd place for regionals and had the honor to participate in the NJSHS held in San Diego, California.

    I think my past experiences in JSHS and my consistent desire to try JSHS proves my great interest in the science field. The major reason why I want to attend STEMinars is not just because I am interested but because I am trying to discover myself. I will be a junior next year and I consider it to be the most important year of my high school career. This is because I will be taking higher level AP classes as well as prepare myself for the SAT. I have been wanting to know what career I would like to pursue based on my interests but I still haven't made up my mind on what I would like to be. Therefore, I think it is important for me to continually expose myself to different activities, JSHS being one of them. Through JSHS, I want to keep challenging myself and exposing myself to things that I have to learn. With my previous experiences I believe that I have matured as a student and that I have felt myself aware of the higher level experimentation skills as well as the amount of knowledgeable people that are out there. JSHS not only made me a better scientist but also a better writer as well as develop my social interaction skills. It makes me strive to become better and also prepares me for college. Maybe until this year I had never had a teacher who taught science with very much passion. This year my mind was opened to such an intriguing world of experimentation and wonder.   1. I am interested in attending STEMinars for a number of reasons, both professional and personal. Professionally, I plan on becoming a psychologist and by joining the behavorial science part of the STEMinars, I could gain a greater understanding of psychology, thus helping me discover whether or not I truly am interested in it.   1. Well, last year I went to a STEM school called ATEMS (academy of technology engineering mathematics and science) and I loved how STEM worked. It was great, people who were there (generally) actually wanted to be there and school and learning and stuff was actually fun. So yeah STEM stuff is a pretty big deal to me. I also really like science and math and engineering because its all actually applicable to real life. Last year we did project based learning for almost everything. Being able to build actual representations of these concepts made it much clearer for me and I understood the concepts much better than I had with previous learning styles. A camp like this would allow me to learn more about the topics that I'm interested in than I would just being in a class at my school. The more I can learn about these things the more that I will know what I want to do in the future. Because in all of the science and mathematics studies there are so many topics to learn about so the more I know now the more I would be prepared for future decisions. Recently I have seen a lot of reports on new scientific developments and possible future technologies and I think it would be great to be able to contribute to this development (and I saw a video about the possibilities of building a functional light saber, I mean who wouldn't want to help develop that).

At first I had really not that much interest involved with STEM and I thought to myself that I might not need to be involved in any of these programs. However now looking at all that is involved in STEM I have realized that there are things that I may be interested in but I have no idea what it may be like and that is why I feel that this seminar will allow me to experience firsthand qhat those fields are like.

  1. Since a young age, I've always been interested in science and mathematics. I've also excelled in these areas as I have received outstanding grades in science and mathematics. I have been breezing through high-school mathematics courses since the 7th grade and I plan to take APCALC BC next year.



    Why do I want to attend STEMinar’ Pursuing a career in the field of science/mathematics seems to be ideal for the skills I possess. I want to attend because I feel as if one of the areas featured there might be what I'm doing for the rest of my life. I want to submerge myself in the pool of STEM knowledge, and climb out dripping with a sense of understanding, confidence, sureness, and opportunity.

  1. Ever since I was a child I had a great interest in almost anything alive. All I wanted to do was go outside and look for living things to observe and even catch them if I could. As I grew up I started to become aware of the pollution in the world and the endangerment of all these beautiful creatures that inhabit this world. Ever since I was in middle school I thought to myself, ‘only if I could do something.’ As I started high school I started to read about organizations that help and supported animals all over the world. These were some of the greatest people in the world, in my opinion. Then in 10 I came into B and was determined to become a wildlife biologist or a zoologist, along with doing some studies in the green technology area. This would be a great opportunity for me and the future. I really hope to one day help this dying planet we live in. I was also very intrigued by a fellow student at my school who won the JSHS. A short term goal of mine is to attend the JSHS and represent my school. Overall I wish to attend STEMinar to gain both experience and knowledge for JSHS and my dream job.

  1. I want to attent STEMinar because im intrested in techonology. In the future I want to be a engineer either in computer or gaming.I am intrested in doing a JSHS project this year, i want to show what I can make from learning. I am also intrested applying for the Research Science Institute at MIT this summer but because im going into 11 Over the summer I wil lhave to study for SAT. This will help me learn more about the field i want to be in and see if i really want to be in that field or not. I like to play games alot, and my mom would get pissed of me playing game so from playing games I want to learn how to creat games and if that is really my thing or not or if i have to go for a differnet career. After the gaming techonology i would go for other fields of engineering like computer engineer where you can fix computers or work with computers and read the computer language. If I do go to STEMinar i want to see how it will be like working as a engineer, and see how fun it can be.

  1. STEMinars was presented to me as a weeklong event that would indulge in science, automatically getting me hooked. The reason for my interest is mainly to prepare myself. Ever since middle school, I was determined to have a future career in a field involving math or science. I have always excelled in and enjoyed these subjects. Now in high school, I have narrowed it down to becoming a doctor. However, currently I have not taken many classes dealing with this career path. My hope for this program is to introduce me to STEM subjects that will increase my knowledge that will ready me for my future.



    As of now, the only classes I have taken that are related to the medical field are B, C, and health. For a sophomore, I believe that three subjects related to the medical field are not enough. STEMinars will allow me to expand my knowledge, and surely increase my understanding and chance to go into the medical sciences.



    Another reason for me wanting to join STEMinars is to meet peers with the same interests and goals as me. If I am able to attend the STEMinars event, I will be able to mingle and gain information that may help me in the future. For example, if I meet another student there who has an interest in the medical field, I can learn what he or she has done to prepare him or herself. From the knowledge gained, I can adjust my future decisions and make better choices.



    In conclusion, my main goal for this program is to help me become more knowledgeable.

  1. Why is the concept of STEM so important to me’ STEM means more than just being able to focus and learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM helps students gain interest in topics that are essential to become well-rounded individuals who strive to create a better future for ourselves. With STEM, and having the chance of attending a STEMinar, I can learn more about the areas that I enjoy the most. I think this is an excellent program to interest students who may have never focused on STEM, or help students increase their knowledge on these subjects. As an incoming freshmen, I have many goals for myself in high school. If I have the opportunity to attend this STEMinar, I can familiarize myself with emerging technologies and how science and math play a critical role in whatever career I choose to enter.



    Another reason the concept of STEM is so important to me is because I took ALG1 as a seventh grade student and GEO as an eighth grade student. I know females are under-represented in many career fields where STEM plays an important role. My parents have always helped me believe that I can pursue whatever career field I am interested in as long as I work hard for it and open myself to opportunities. Attending STEMinar will give me the chance think about what I want for myself, and what career field I may want to go into. I always have been interested in STEM and aspire to work in the medical field one day. If selected, I would represent my school to my best ability and be able to share my experience with others. STEMinar would be a life changing opportunity for me. I have loved studying and experimenting with these topics since I was in elementary school and even now, in middle school, I have found myself always looking forward to learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM affects me in all areas of my life and if I am able to attend this STEMinar, I will fully appreciate the opportunity to increase my understanding of STEM.

  1. I wish to attend STEMinars because I am really interested in a lot of different kinds of science and in the future I want to become a doctor. I thought it would be really fun to learn about different fields of science, such as gaming technology that I know nothing about. I also thought it would be a great experience for me and my future to attend something like STEMinars. Science and math are my favorite subjects in school that I think I do pretty well in, and I would really like to learn about the different fields of science. This year I went to my first Far East which was Far East Math and I really thought it was really fun and I wanted to stay for another week or two. I think that this Far East would be the same especially because it is also for one of my favorite subjects and I think I could learn a lot. Some of the topics that were listed to choose from were topics that I didn’t even know about. This made me even more interested in doing this event. There are also course that I can’t take in MC Perry and I wish to learn about these courses. If I could get accepted into this event I hope I could learn a lot about the fields of science, especially gaming technology, robotics, and medical and health science.

  1. I want to attend the STEMinars because I am searching for what I want to do in the future and I am interested in science and math. I also have attended JSHS and SARA before, and I would like to attend again. This will help me explore other areas of science, help me to pick a rigorous JSHS project, and help me with the experimental process. I do plan on attending JSHS, and I would like to improve on my researching technics. I was also exposed to many other types of higher level sciences that I would like learn more about. During my high school career I have become more interested in B and would like to grow in my knowledge in that area. I think I would be able to excel in a science or math field with more expericne. There are not a lot of opportunities that I have found to explore science and math fields where I am, so this is a good opportunity to do hands-on experiments and get a feel for working in a research field.   1. I am a very math and science oriented person and I wanted to join Far East STEMinars for 2012 because of my interest in the math and science field overall. I intend to have a future career in the math, science, or engineering field. I hope that Far East STEMinars can help me explore all of the possible careers in the field of science, math, or engineering which would help me decide which career I would enjoy the most in the future. Although I currently hope to study computer science, my goal in this event is to broaden my view on all possible careers in the STEM field by attending this event.   1. Human nature tends to inquire and inspire. Throughout history, innumerable discoveries were made that shifted course of science forever, along with constant questioning. As a student, I'm fulfilled with question, unsatisfied and not answered, from the smallest level, an atom, to the scale of Earth and outer space. It might be exaggerated, but still my eagerness to grasp the chance and opportunity is real and genuine. It's dishonest to deceive you and myself by saying everything is for my passion, for actually part of it is to upperhand the future competition. My standard could be wrong in your or in any standard, but my motivation to pursuit scientific achievement and knowledge, as I have mentioned before, is true. I hope this opportunity to prepare me for JSHS which I'm interested to participate during my highschool year.   1. Im interested in this because i've always loved science class. One day my teacher called me over and asked if i wanted to attend this. Now there is two reasons why i want to go. The first reason is because i thought this would be a graet expiernce for me. The second because you guys offerred so many thing's but the main one for me is Earth and Space Science. My dad is in the military so i've been to some really cool place like here (japan) and Germany. Now with this i've seen many cool thing but the one thing that i like the most is the weather differences which is another reason i choose my main reason to go is earth and space science. Now i know there's more to Earth and space science then just weather. I know this and i love evrything about earth and space science. Like earthquakes and volcanoes and many other thing's. Last reason i really want to attend this. When i grow up i hope to become a Meteorologist. I think i would have alot more knowledge if a can come to this a learn as much stuff about earth and weather as possible. If not im still going to try my hardest to become a Meteorologist.

  1. My dad is in the military so I’ve been to many places like here (Japan) and Germany. The one thing I noticed right away was the weather. That’s one reason I chose earth and space science this year. I know there are more to earth and space science like earthquakes, volcanoes, and plate’s movement and many other things. I have always loved science but when my teacher showed me this great opportunity to go attend a science university I was thrilled. It’s not every day I a person gets an opportunity like this. Now there are many reasons why I want to attend this trip. The first reason is because I love science all together it’s just the greatest subject and my best subject. The second reason is when I grow up I hope to be a Meteorologist. Now like I said early there’s also a lot of other thing’s Meteorologist need to know other than just weather. Now there are some things to learn about on this trip that are really cool like robotics. So I hope to learn many cool things on this trip.

  1. During the time period of my younger childhood, to my current, more matured age, I have had a prominent interest in science. The first books I read on my own were written on the topics of ocean life, what pre-historic creature’s behavioral patterns were their adaptations to certain environmental factors, and the predator and prey relationships which formed the basis of their ecosystems. Instead of my passion of learning about the previous mentioned subjects waning in a way similar to how I have seen my peers own interests decrease, my interest in science has only increased. I want to be able to have an understanding of science so that I can do research on my own professionally, when I am qualified, and answer the questions in various fields of the subject which have been thus far unaddressed. I am not simply content with only that, but I also wish to be part of the group that brings science back into the forefront of people’s minds, a time where a new renaissance on the subject starts that will not only be of a benefit to a single area, but to the world as a whole. The progression of science means a positive progression in societies, where opinions and actions are not formed on lack of understanding, but on the empirical and factual knowledge, logic and reasoning which science provides us with. With more knowledge, medical questions can be answered, solutions to worldwide problems could be met, and a better understanding of the planet which we are living, life in general and the universe as a whole can be created. Every great mind has had its origins as a kid with a yearning for knowledge, and while they were not the only people to have this, it was them who took initiative and made sure to develop their skills in order to be the people who discovered and revolutionized. I am willing to take initiative as well, and work the hardest that I am able to reach my full potential. It is with these reasons that I ask for the staff to consider my request to be one of the few students selected to attend the S.T.E.M seminars.

  1. I would like to pursue a career in the STEM field of work, more specifically in microB or in health. I am very fasinated in math and the sciences and I think its a great chance to learn more about our world, make discoveries, and learn about the so many potentials of our time. I have done many things with STEM in the past including competing in the JSHS regionals and nationals, Mathematica Fest, and Science and Research Academy. I plan on continuing with STEM by attending a National Youth Leadership Forum in the summer, competing again the JSHS next year,and also applying for RSI. I believe this STEMinar will help me learn more about my field of science and help me in the future.

  1. I want to attend the STEMinars because I am very inquisitive. Growing up I was always interested in how things worked. I do not know what I want to when I grow up but all my ideas have something to do with science. When I was a young I wanted to be a Paleontologist. Now I am thinking about engineering. Another option could be dentistry (my uncle wants me to take over his business). I have to decide though. Now, I want to go to the STEMinar because almost all the areas I am interested in I know nothing about. So I thought why not go to this, because all the jobs I want to do when I grow up are shown to me at this STEMinar. I am going to take advanced sciences anyway, and this trip will help me get prepared for those classes. I also wanted to go to this because the opportunity is available. Back in Hawa2, where I am from, I would have never gotten a chance like this to learn more. I would just be stuck there learning from the limited classes they have to offer. If I go to this STEMinar then I can learn new things from a variety of subjects. One the thing that won me over was when I was told by my teacher that it was a hands-on experience. I was so excited because when I was younger, none of the schools I went to could afford the resources for hands-on activities. If I go to STEMinar I get to have fun and learn how to use these different instruments. Plus when I take more advanced sciences throughout high school I should already be ahead because I will know a little more than everyone else from the beginning. I am currently in the process of building a computer and am enjoying it very much and I love building and designing almost anything.   1. I want to major in B, and I feel attending STEMinars would give me an added edge after I graduate and hopefully become a medical reasearcher. I like to take advantage of many science opportunities because I am limited to the ones I have access to, which is why I've doubled up on science classes throughout the years! Other areas such as Robotics, which my school does not offer, sounds exciting to learn more about, and although I'm not particularly fond of math, I know this Fareast would also improve my skills in a more exciting atmosphere. I have never attended an academic Fareast before so I would love the chance to go and meet other students who share a thrill for science and technology like I do. Going to STEMinar would also allow me to explore fields which I otherwise be limited in, and possibly discover a new field I'd like to pursue as a career. Attending such as small school, many technology classes are either offered online, or not at all. With this Fareast offering a broad range of technological areas to look into, I would be able to potentially develop skills I would be unable to at my High School. I would also have the chance to apply my math skills to projects and assignments other than science and into technology, which would be a first for me. Of course all the academic benefits it has, it also sounds like an exciting Fareast that I would have a blast visiting different science museums and centers, along with meeting people who have actually made their career about science which I intend to do. Talking with them would help confirm my hopes for the future! Going to STEMinar definitely make my last year of High School special and something that would help me in the long run.

I'm a junior right now and i really think i should be thinking about college, so i decided that i wnated to get a bachelor or a major in Enviromental Engineering, and sinice this is one of the few chances tht i can get to take anything that will help me in that field i really wanted to try out and see how the field would make me feel. I really think i'll like it since i do like B and engineering. Also my father is an engineer so i really want to see what facinates him about the job, what made him want to take the time to study for it.   1. I would love to attend this STEMinar because, mainly, I want to get, as it is put in the question, a "leg up" in the medical field while I'm in high school. I don't have straight A's, but the medical field is my passion, so I figure I could use all the help I can get. I believe that this will look fantastic on a college application, and will help me get an internship at the Mayo Clinic this summer. Also, I would like to do a JSHS project, and the STEM research program goes hand-in-hand with the symposium. I think that this will help me get a grasp on a project that I could do for JSHS.   1. I have been involved in multiple science and engineering programs in the past. I participated in JSHS this year and had a fantastic experience. I have also been a part of multiple science fairs and have applied for RSI. However, I did not have enough experience to be selected. This is part of why I would like to be a part of the STEMinars. I plan on going into the medical field in college, as a neurologist and eventually a neuro-oncologist. In order to be at least proficient in my preferred field of study, I need more exposure and this is an opportunity I am not letting pass by. At JSHS I was introduced to this idea and was absolutely thrilled. I am always looking for new opportunities to increase my knowledge and exposure in the science and engineering fields. Although Robotics is the only engineering course I have taken, this is only because I have not had room in my schedule to take more. I take all competitions, especially academic ones, seriously and hope that the passion I have for science is clear through this application.   1. I would like to attend STEMinars because I personally think that this opportunity would encourage me to explore more than what is just around me. Attending STEMinars, I think, would help me in the process of graduating and going through high school. I have heard that this is a great opportunity for me and I want to take this change for the better. I also thing that attending this program it would help me prepare for the world and college. The area I’m most interested in is Applied Mathematics. This area is most interesting to me because it includes my forte, math. Even though math is not favorite subject, it is my strongest. I would feel most comfortable in an area have to do with math than anything else. I really want to explore more options in the area of mathematics. I feel that I could go really far in this area too. A couple of other areas I’m interested in are P and Astronomy, Engineering, Earth and Space, and Bioengineering. I think that this is s really good way to step up and start preparing for my future in science. I also think that this would be a great way to investigate more into my options and ask questions to people that are designed to answer them. My mom is a nurse, with a minor in sociology, while my dad has a degree in metallurgic engineering, and flies planes now. My uncle has a doctorate and so does my grandfather. Why do cells, somatic or gametes, know exactly when to divide’ Why does molecular structure play a major role in various reactions’ These are some questions that people need to know to understand life on earth. Every single thing around us has a reason. The reason why water in a cup that has been left out for about a month is gone is because of evaporation. There are questions only science can explain to a certain point. That is what interests me immensely.

    I have been enmeshed in the Junior Science Humanities Symposium and was selected as a second place winner to attend the Washington conference. At this conference, I have seen many students far better than I, who truly loved science. Viewing these students became a motivation for me. As a young 8th grader, I became interested in becoming a doctor or a scientist. My goal has not changed. As I continue my education, I want to learn so much more about the human body, the environment, human behavior, etc. When I encounter this information and become a scientist, I will edify children who are not able to attend schools due to destitution. Learning is a very important part in peoples’ lives. Learning as much as possible has been one of the most significant aspects for my life. I want to teach more children, teenagers, and adults about science and hopefully influence them positively.

    On the other hand, if I become a doctor, then I will certainly help those bereft from necessary health resources. I do not care about the money, but in return for my assistance, I do not need a thank you, I just want a smile from those patients. By attending this STEMinar, I believe I can see more of the medical field and learn from those who are experienced. I used to be interested in robotics, but now I'm more into other sorts of engineering, although I'm still not sure which is the one I want to learn about.   1. I would like to attend STEMinars because I'm very interested in engineering and I'm good at math. My plan is to attend Oregon State University and major in Engineering. I have attended a couple of engineering camps at OSU and have really learned a lot. This STEMinar will add to my knowledge for the future.



    My hope, is that I will become an engineer when I'm older and I'm trying to get as much variety and experience as I can. Since around the sixth grade I've known that I wanted to be an engineer and I feel that this program would help increase my knowledge while at the same time, giving me something fun to do.

  1. Every year I take a science course, I do not feel challenged. I maintain an average of at least 95% and no matter how much I take on in addition to school, such as sports a job and community service, I have not managed to feel the challenge I have been seeking. It is the same in Mathematics except I have maintained a 99% average all year without any studying. I am hoping that SARA will challenge me and help me to learn more than I currently am. I have used every available source to increase my knowledge and have been virtually teaching myself all year. Another thing I hope to gain from SARA is knowledge from an actual person instead of teaching myself. In addition, I am hoping to attend the Naval Academy and believe this will give me an edge in admissions. Any work I begin there I will follow through on with a project entered in the science fair. Finally, I have a love for science and engineering. In my free time, I try to teach myself a new concept and often find myself solving complicated equations my classmates could not even begin to understand. My Terra Nova scores were a 99 in Science and a 98 in mathematics, further reinforcing in my mind that I needed to apply to the event. In conclusion, I want to attend SARA in order to challenge myself, increase my knowledge, gain an edge in college admissions and the science fair and, finally, just because I believe it would be a great experience for me and something I would enjoy.

  1. I would like to attend STEMinars because I believe it's a great opportunity to expose myself to the expansive world of science and technology. I would be interested in doing a JSHS project and I would be interested in applying for the Research Science Institue at MIT in the summer. I've been considering to attend MIT for my college, and not only will this opportunity help me exceed in fields of science, but also show me what to expect in what could possibly come from my future.



    There is one field I'm really interested in, and that's Gaming Technology. In my future I really want to work for the gaming industry because it's such a popular interactive media. The reason why gaming really strikes me is because it immerses the consumers in a world that the developers create. Sure, you can watch a movie or read a book, but when you combine the splendors of these existing forms of entertainment, there's much more potential that can be reached.



    Of course playing games is just one side of the idea, but the technology that goes into the developement also fascinates me. I'm interested on how gaming technologies advance so far and how optimized they can be. I guess I was the only person at my school where I could geek about the source engine version that was utilized in Portal 2 or how bump maps worked in Half-Life 2. However I believe with this opportunity I can dive in and work with more inspired individuals to really feel how working collaboratively can create an impressive product. It's interesting to explore how different game engines can be like comparing the frostbite engine with the unreal engine. With all of these in mind, I took matters into my own hands and began modding games on my own. Considering my leisure time is continually decreasing as my high school career continues, I found that playing around in developer kits were an interesting way of entertaining myself rather than watching TV or playing outside like other kids. Even though there was a price to be paid, it was what made me happy, and I was fine with that.



    My ultimate goal in the future is to work for a gaming company called "Valve". The STEMinars are important to me because maybe I could get a small taste of how possibly working in a bigger company could be. I want to meet other people who dream of working in the gaming industry like me and hopefully I can make some friends along the way. I was inspired by some indie game makers such as Team Meat from Super Meat Boy, or the developers of Bastion. They showed that a little idea can become a great idea and many people will be willing to support you. The very same way, I want to inspire other children about how brilliant the world of gaming can be considering the amount of work that happens behind the scenes. Gaming isn't an escape for anti-social teens like many people generalize, but it's an open world to provide escape from reality and a portal to the fictional world. Science is not about why, it's about why not’ It's about finding out new ways to perform the old tasks better, and gaming is all about that. It benefits the consumers, and give the developers something memorable.



    Overall, science is a field I want to pursue in the future, mainly the field of gaming technology. I would really LOVE to get into these STEMinars because the future couldn't possibly come soon enough for an aspiring individual such as I am.     My friend who has previously done science symposium got me interested in this.

    She told me about how you have higher chances in getting scholarships in the science field. She also told me how I could meet actual neurologists and do research projects with them during this STEMinar. I've always been interested in the medical field of science. Well, science in general I'm very interested in and excel quite well in science subjects.

    I believe this could help me pursue my interest in the medical/biomedical side of science.

    This is because I want to be a neurosurGEOn as my career. I've already been learning and reading up about things of the brain/nervous system. I've already planned out my future classes that I shall have to take in order to make this happen.



    Another reason I'd like to be part of this STEMinar is because I've been learning about STEM in AFJROTC and I've also noticed that all of the military academies also require you to learn about STEM as well. So for me to go to the academy (most likely Navy or Air Force) it be best for me to learn about STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics).



    As for the JSHS project, I’d be willing to done it.

    It's a good first step to bigger things and I've been told that it's best if you do it.

    I would apply for the Research Science Institute at MIT or any of the other Medical/Engineering Summer Research programs that they offer. The only problem with that is the prices that my parents aren't willing to pay. But if I had the chance and the money I would apply for these.

    I believe these summer research programs and STEM will give me a leg up in the competition for a couple of reasons.

    -It shows that I'm willing to go above and beyond others

    -I can handle big projects and manage my time well

    -I have gain experience in the STEM fields

I have an interest in the science area and I would like to learn more about this subject than I am taught in class. I would like to have a career in the medical field after high school.   1. Over the past three years of self-study and research experience, I have grown increasingly interested and dedicated to expanding my knowledge of mathematics and bioC. For two of the three years of study and research, I examined the health effects of chemicals on Daphnia. In year one, I studied the effects of common household chemicals on Daphnia, in year two I conducted a study of ‘environmentally friendly’ chemicals on Daphnia, and performed a comparison analysis against the results of my first year study. I presented my original research at the Far East Regional (Japan, Guam, Korea, and Okinawa) Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) held in Tokyo, Japan and came in 1st place. I went on to present my research as a speaker at the 48th National Junior Science and Humanities symposium held in Bethesda, Maryland.



    At Nationals, I spoke with many of the judges and guest scientists. We discussed my strengths, weaknesses, and a possible road map for success. Taking their guidance to heart, I pursed an internship opportunity at Hiroshima University in Hiroshima, Japan. At the University, I conducted research on the negative regulation of a synthesized TRAF1 peptide on TRAF6 signaling as it relates to transcription leading to osteoclastogenesis of RAW 264.7 mouse cells. I ended up returning to Nationals to present my research.



    After much self study, I understand that I wish to pursue a degree in science or mathematics, but I am slightly lost on which specific area to study. I hope to gain a better understanding of what applied mathematics or bioengineering entails. With this added knowledge, I hope to better equip myself to pick a school or major that suites my interests best.

Recently, I've been intorduced to engineering classes and I have developed an interest in the engineering fields. These STEMinars would be a great opportunity for me to further develop my knowledge and interests regarding the engineering and biomedical fields. In addition to that, I also plan on applying for the JSHS program later on in the year. By attending the STEMinars I will be more aquainted with biological ideas and engineering specialties which will ultimately help me complete my science project for the JSHS activity. Since STEM involves both sciences and engineering, I believe that attending this seminar will help me to finalize my decision on what I would like to major in college. At the moment I still cannot decide between majoring in Biomedical studies or Biomedical engineering. However, I am positive that if I were to attend STEM Academy, I would be guided and inspired to major in one field or the other. I believe that this opportunity to work within the STEM fields would be a wonderful experience as well as a great chance to further develop my knowledge in each of the STEM fields.

  1. This year as a freshman the STEM field has became a great interest to me. I want to gain knowledge and take any opportunity I can to learn and be able to understand more about STEM. Before high school, math and science really didn't interest me, but this year I got really into it and love it all so much. The world of science and technology excite me! Even though I don't have much experience from classes that are engineering or science/medical related, but I think this is a chance that I can get that will expose me to all of it! This opportunity would be perfect to go to and have that experience to really see what is out for STEM that I don't know about. Freshman year I did great in my Earth & Space class and my Algebra class because I felt the excitement, like I really wanted to learn so much more of it, and understand the big picture. I'm thinking my future career will be in one of the STEM Fields! I would also like to share the excitement with other people about STEM because currently, I don't know too many people who are interested in it. I believe attending STEMinars will be a great chance to learn more in a subject that I am very curious about and being able to share with others.   1. I want to attend STEMinars because I know I will benefit greatly from this amazing experience. I also believe it will help me decide what I might want to pursue as a career after I graduate high school. The STEMinars give a great variety of studies all related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I’m not good at all of these subjects, but I am willing to learn and try new things that could benefit my future. I am interested in joining JSHS during 2012-2013 because I want to experience the competition among the other students who are competing for the win.   1. The reason I wish to attend STEMinars is because it's something that's been recomended by my teacher, as well as a good friend, and I've taken an interest in the program. It seems to be something that I'd find interesting, and it'd be a great experience. I've always found science and it's many fields interesting, and to be able to go into a different environment to experience a program like this would be, well, interesting. I feel that it will also look well when attempting to apply for colleges, and feel as though I'd be missing out on a good oppurtunity if I were to pass up the chance to go to STEMinars. While I tend to isolate myself in an unknown environment, I do intergrate and cooperate well with others to get the job done. I'd hope that I'm not the only person from my school to go, assuming I'd be selected of course, but I'm willing to take the chance. This would be an excellent oppurtunity to learn something new, and I wish not to waste the chance. All the fields I show interest in are simply fields I show interest in. I have no idea what plans I have for any of them in the future, but perhaps going to STEMinars will shed light on what I will show interest in for the future.

  1. I am interested in doing the JSJS project because I am very interested in C, well science in general but I had done well in that class. I am taking three extra science classes next year. I am a motivated individual that wants to better myself and am willing to do what it takes to get a scholarship towards my education.   1. I have always been intrigued with science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics and I believe this opputunity would allow me to learn more about them. Mathmatics has always been my strong suit and a job involving math would suit me best. Of the four parts making up STEM I would have to say engineering intrigues me the most. There are so many different kinds of engineering and I want to learn how engineeing applications are used in certain careers. I plan on majoring in engineering when I go to college, but before I do that I would like to get a better understanding of what engineering really is through this event. I plan on taking Engineering Mathmatics next year and I am even attending the USAFA Engineering Camp over this summer just to learn more about things involving STEM.   1. Arnold Toynbee once said ‘The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play’. I think that this is what Far East STEMinar is doing. It’s taking the two, ‘work’ and ‘play’, and putting them together. They are applying this concept and making a fun way to learn about different scientific and mathematic fields that you can major in.

    My goal is to get a college degree in engineering or medicine. Three seminars appeal to me. They are bioengineering, behavioral science, and medicine and health. I think this would be a wonderful opportunity for me to learn or be exposed to those fields to see if I should really pursue them. You can learn about a subject in school, but these seminars would allow me to live and experience those specific fields. Along with being exposed to several of my possible career choices, I believe it would be also very helpful in giving me ideas for a JSHS project (which I’m planning to join next year). And on top of all of that, I love learning. It would be amazing to spend some time with other students of the pacific who have the same passion for acquiring knowledge as me. I agree with what the famous author, T. H. White, wrote, ‘‘to learn something. That’s the only thing that never fails...That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.   1. There are various reasons to why I would like to participate in STEMinars. I would like to base my future on the STEM fields because I have a lot interest in science, math and engineering. Furthermore, I want to become a mechanical engineer, and this event would give me experience of research in this field. STEMinars is something that will help me in my future.



    The most important of four fields to me is science, math and engineering. Firstly, I am already two years ahead in math and science, which relates to engineering, is a huge interest to me and I always have recieved straight A's in these courses. I think that this one week long Far East would be a great experience and would put me ahead of my peers. Moreover, I believe that this event would assist me in my journey throughout high school and college. Generally, this would be a very helpful experience for my future.



    Overall, this is an event that is based on two of my favorite subjects, math and science. Even though a week of this may wear me out it will be a worthwhile experience in my eyes.   1. I’ve always took great interest in science. It's my dream to be A Forensic scientist. I love learning new things and wish to learn as much of science as I possibly can! I also would LOVE to learn about medicines and if I’m lucky enough to attend the Institute at MIT this summer. That would just make me the happiest person in the world. I have a true calling for science, and this is one of the many subjects I enjoy coming to class to and getting started on my work. If I’m accepted, not only would it boost up my confidence and competition level, but it would really motivate me to do well in life and follow my dreams. I’m a very determined and extremely hard working young lady. I give my all in everything I do and consider myself to be a positive role model and leader towards my peers. My parents and I have always talked about me going to college, they never attended, in fact my mother never graduated from high school.   1. I would love to attend STEMinars because it is a great experience for me. I grew up with a mother that is a school nurse, so I have always enjoyed being in "the lab." I would help her put together all of the first aid kits. Even now if someone gets hurt the "nurse" in me comes out and I help out. My step-dad is an 8th grade science teacher who usually teaches me a new lesson everyday. Living on an island has turned me into a water baby. I love to learn or do anything in the water. To learn about the world is like being back stage at a play. You get to see the inside of everything. Every year my family and I travel the world. We have been to Hawa2 every summer and been to the different islands. I have been on top of Haleakala, Mauna Kea, and have also been to the Big Island of Hawa2 to walk around the lava tubes. Every place that we go I get a science lesson that helps me understand why and how things happen on this Earth. Other places I have been to include Crater Lake, Florida natural springs, waterfalls in Okinawa, Japan and Hawa2, red woods and many other places. For me just to enjoy the beauty is everything but the science behind everything makes you think. In the future I would love to travel the world and enjoy all of the natural places that Earth has to offer.

    I am interested in doing a JSHS project this year and think this is a good first step. I am interested in JSHS because not only does it give me the time to study on one certain topic but it gives me an opportunity. It gives me an opportunity for interactions with other people as a presenter for my project as well. I would learn the abilities for communications which can help me with the outside world and not just the school environment.



    As of now, I would like to study the major of forensics in college or a uuniversity. I plan on being a forensic biologist. The history behind it is that I was watching the show "CSI: Miami". While watching it, there were some scientists investigating which grabbed my interest into it. It did so because I used to just want to study Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement but I realized the fact that forensics was another field of study in science that I can apply to for my majors that I planned to take. To be honest, I really didn't use to like science at all. But these past few years have changed it for me and so I believe that this STEMinar can improve for me to start a new plan of future in the field of science.



    Since I am also a military child, going to the USNH hospital caught my interest in science as well. The pharmacy caught my eyes. I liked the fact of how you can save lives and also do something interesting, a pharmacist, interesting for me. While applying for this STEMinar, it had the choices I can choose for this and I saw medical. Then I chose that as my most choice. It made me realize with all the other choices that there are other studies that actually caught my interest in the science, a subject I used to not like. So now I am extremely interested for the STEMinar and hope that if I get accepted, it will take me far ahead and change my life.

  1. The courses that the STEMinars offer hit the jackpot of things that I'm interested in. My school offers no classes on video game design or programming of that sort, and that's something that I've always wanted to learn about. The STEMinars also offer courses on many fields of science, and I'd love to learn about more advanced sciences than I'm currently learning. In addition, I really want to have a shot at getting to the MIT summer Research Science Institute, seeing as that can only help me with getting into college. I personally want to participate in this year’s STEMinar because I have been interested in a career in the field of science my entire life, especially since fifth grade, when I won the school science fair. I want to become a Veterinarian when I grow older, and other sciences such as Psychology have always interested me. This summer, I have been accepted to go to Whale Camp, which is a three week camping experience that takes place in Canada. There I will be able to observe several species of whale and seabird on their yearly migrations. I was hoping at STEMinar I will be able to experience different sciences in different fields. I also am interested in the Research Science Institute at MIT, and I know the competition is fierce. I am hoping attending the STEMinar give me the skills and experiences needed for such an event. My name is Hikari Skabelun, I 14years old and I am in 8th grade almost in 9th. i have been givin many blessings from traveling all over the world and being able to know how the world works. My favorite subject is science/C since i was young but i am willing to to try anything people are willing to give to me. Many people express themselves by using word or any artistic skill they have, I like to use science to express my self. Ok enough about my lfe. I am very intrested in doing JSHS and doing the far east program. Though it is my first year ever doing anything relating to JSHS or far east i would love to start now.   1. I want to study medicine and biomedical engineering. I've always loved science and mathematics, but I have only had experience in an Applied Technology class in 6th grade. I want to be able to develop new kinds of technology that make it easier for people with different diseases to be cured. For example, with Diabetes, people are constantly having ot check their blood pressure and insulin levels. What if there was a kind of chip or nano technology (kind of like what they put into dogs so that if a dog is ever found you'll no who they belong to) that could be put into someone's blood stream that would constantly monitor someone's blood pressure and insulin levels as well as make adjustments. People wouldn't have to take so much time out of their days to check their blood pressure, and would instead have a memo pop up on their computer when it became to high or low. Another thing I've been thinking about is a nano bot that could deliver chemo therapy only to cancer cells instead of all the cells. People would be healthier and hopefully wouldn't have as many side effects of the chemo therapy, such as, losing their hair. I also want to develop different technologies that would make surgeries less invasive to people. Instead of just cutting them open if there was a type of nano technology that could go into the body and fix whatever was going wrong in somebody's body. I just want to be able to help people and make their lives easier, so that they can be more productive members of society.STEM activities will help me achieve these goals.

  1. I would like to attend STEMinars this year because this is actually my last year in Japan and most likely attending a Far East. We obviously know that they do not have this Far East's back in the United States. So, this would be my last time traveling around Japan. I want to attend STEMinars because when I finish with college, I hope to attend medical school and major in pediatrics. I love children. They are so fun and full of spirits. I always hate to see a kid sick or in pain, so why not mesh my two favorite things together and help the children and make them better. I also find it fascinating how children act when they are sick and how their moods change in different situations. I would also like to attend STEMinars because I think that it will actually give me a leg up when I go to college, because I will already know how a lab and experiment works in college. This would give me the opporutunity to learn and broden my selction choice, also.

  1. I would like to do attend these seminars because I think science is one of the most interesting courses you can take in High School. I also like science because it can challenge you in a lot of ways and it involves a lot of hands on expirimenting and it takes good skill in math to get to the good stuff.



    I BTEhink STEMinars will help me learn more about the world and how it works and I like the challenges science proposes to me. I love math and science and I hope that doing this will help me get even more invlolved in science. I hope to go to the Air Force Academy so I need to be efficient in the math and sciences, which I figured would help me excel in my Sophmore year in high school.



    I also want to attend these type of things is because i'm very social and I love to meet new people. I think if you have more people thinking together, you can get more diverse and crazy ideas rather than if you were just working on your own. Collaborative thinking helps me get more ideas for the future and helps me think ways other than my own and sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't.



    As a kid, i've always wanted to be an astronaut. I still wouldn't mind being one today if I couldn't do anything else. My mind always revolved around the world and how it worked. I used to and still do philosophise on why this works or why it happened or why it didn't, and etc. It's always fun to compare my thesis's and the actual expiriment results to apply them to real-world scenarios.



    I said it before, I love science and math and I think that going to this will make me love science even more than I already do now.

  1. Science, though not my strongest subject, is one that deeply interests me. While some are more interesting than others (to this day, my knowledge on robotics is strictly limited to C3PO and R2D2), science has always been something I would like to explore but never really had the opportunity to. Throughout the years, I admit to be more creatively and artistically minded. While history and English are subjects that come naturally to me, science and math are topics that challenge me, requiring me to actually think without my comfort zone. Constantly working in fields you feel comfortable in can easily get tedious and boring, and while math and science may frustrate me, the rewards of actually overcoming these intellectual obstacles is considerably more sweeter. While I'm most interested in fields such as behavioral sciences and astronomy, getting the chance to go at all would something be an opportunity to test where my limits are and how to surpass them. While science is typically an intellectually minded path, I would rather approach it in a creative manner. Taking every chance to feed my ever growing curiosity, attending STEMinars would be a wonderful time to grow socially, personally, and scientifically.

  1. Ever since i was a little kid, iv'e always been interested in how things work and how to fix them. All through elementary and middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects, and science remains there even as i enter senior year. The STEMinars would not only give me a chnace to explore more science and math, hopefully some P as i took and really enjoyed that class this year and am planning to take AP P next year. In taking P this year, i also rediscovered the reasons why i enjoyed math; i enjoy actually having to work my brain a little bit and the satisfaction that comes when i finally UNDERSTAND a problem. Somehow, the harder a problem is to solve, the more amazing it feels to finally complete it. Because of this love of challenges i have, i am also considerind doing a JSHS project, and hopefully these seminars will push me to want to do it even more. In my areas of interest, the other top subject i picked was medicine, which is the field i plan to study in college. Medicine seems to combine an exciting never-boring job with problem-solving and science, which sounds just amazing. Hopefully these STEMinars will be a fun way to get some actual real-world experience in the fields of science, math, and engineering, as well as a way to give my brain a little work.

  1. One of my friends told me about steminars during A4 period randomly. I wanted to skip my Science teacher's class, since he had a test to torture me with. I am interested in science, especially computer science. I started with a program made by MIT called scratch, and I loved it. I'd never known I could script an object to do pretty much anything I wanted it to do. By now, I know javascript, html, css, Visual Basic, background knowledge of C#, and a little java. Right now, programming is my hobby, but I want to take it to a professional level. When I see a program, I don't think of how useful it is, I try to figure out how they made it. This leads me to many discoveries in programming I never knew about. Mabye steminar will be a good discovery for me too. I have no idea.

  1. I would love to attend the STEMinar. My passion is for beharvioral and forensic sciences. I want to go into behavioral analysis after graduating college and believe your behavioral science STEMinar will be the perfect step in the right direction. I have always been a Math and Science centered person and would enjoy learning about the other aspects of the seminar, not just my main focus, behavioral science. Behavioral science in criminology has always interested me and I hope to make a career of it someday.   1. Well, first of all, i love science. Especially astronomy and robotics. Im not the smartest in these fields, but i love it. I want to ba a pilot when i grow up and that requires math. Being an engineer would be a good trait into beocming a pilot. But back to the topic, I've always been great at science. Its my best and favorite subject ever since i think maybe third grade or before. i want to attend the STEMinars because i think that i will learn much from it. I also think because this will help with getting into college, academys, or universities. Attending this event will boost my chances and greatly help with the competiton into geting into colleges. I have not heard of JSHS but either way, i most likely will do a project next year and after. I also won third place in the energy and technololgy category in the 34th Guam Annual Science Fair.

  1. Even at a young age, I’ve expressed interest in fields of work that are rewarding and could benefit others. Now, as a rising sophomore, I feel it is my duty to explore the possibilities of careers that cater to this criterion. A job revolving around health science and specifically behavioral science interests me because through it, you can make an impact on the lives of others.



    STEMinars would be a stepping-stone to help me further understand what I wish to do in the future, and how to achieve it. The opportunity presented would allow me to experiment within scientific, mathematic, and technological studies.   1. There are several reasons why I would love to attend the STEMinars provided. As a child, I always looked up to my father who is now an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant. I remember the medical field being something that appealed to me even when I was young. Up until now I have been looking for every opportunity to excel my knowledge in medicine so I could be ahead of the game when the time came for college and medical school. I was actually planning to apply for several medical camps in the states, however they were rather pricey amounting to over $2000. When I first heard of about STEMinar I was overtaken by joy because this would be so beneficial in so many ways. It would give me a chance to travel to Japan and go to a beautiful University in one of the most intellectual cities. It would also benefit me in JSHS, which I was hoping to apply for last year. Unfortunately I was unable to pick a research topic. STEMinar will most definitely open me up to new ideas and aspects of sciences. Another reason why I would very much like to attend is because I love to learn new things. I may not be too experienced in these fields, but this is the perfect time to learn. Lastly, the whole concept of STEMinar is what reached out to me the most. I love that it gives students the chance to do hands-on activities and that it gives the younger generation an opportunity to figure out what they would like to do with their futures. Nowadays, younger people are no longer interested in sciences mainly because they are not aware of the amazing experience it gives you and how fin it really can be. STEMinar is perfect for showing students how important science is and how much fun it really can be. It would be an amazing opportunity to be accepted into STEMinar due to its benefits in the long run and I hope that I will be able to experience this rare opportunity to gain knowledge in the field that I have grown up loving.

Unfortunately, my transrcript was delivered way to olate this year (from my past school) and I had to retake my maths and science classes, so I didn't get the chance to take the classes that I wanted to.   1. Ever since I was a child, I had always imagined of me getting a really fancy job that someone could look up to. In fact, the very first career path I ever thought of was to be a mathematician. This idea came from watching the TV show "Numbers". As time went on and I grew older, that died away after I found out how math is. Then music became influential to my life, and still is. Through out my whoel life, I have always found interest in helping people. It gives me joy to see people happy. Being a counselor by knowing how the brain works (psychology and neurology) has been a pretty interesting career. That has been a possible future for me when I enetered high school. But one thing that is my goal to become is a doctor. The specific job is not determined, but helping people as a doctor will be an amazing job. Radiology has stuck out to me the most. I'm a shy person, so being able to help people using machines to do the work will help me ease the process. The only thing I don't like is the time of studying you need to graduate with a degree for radiology. But radiology is still one of my top five. One last job that I would consider amazing would to be an astro physicist. "The Big Bang Theory" TV show is hilarious and really educational at the same time. Sheldon Cooper is a genius theoretical physicist. His knowledge impresses me to no limit. But space has always interested me. It's so marvelous and enormous. On that TV show, Raj is an astro physicist. It would pretty cool to have a job like that. My brother ruined that dream by saying that most stuff about space travel is all drones now, so astronaut is out of the list. Then he said you have to be lucky to find someething new, but isn't a lot of things like that’ Engineering seems difficult, since I'm not THAT creative and not a good builder. I can only build Lego things. But engineering would be a pretty cool thing to do, making stuff that can help people better their lives. So in all, the reason I want to come here is to help me choose a career path and further my interest in science and life to help people. Also, being able to get out of school for once without getting an unexcused abscense would be pretty awesome. (:

I feel that steminar would give me better insight on B and other feilds of science.   1. I want to attend the STEMinars because I have decided this year, my junior year that I want to study some branch of science in college. Though I have only developed an interest in sciences near the end of my sophomore year, that small interest had soon bloomed into a love for science. As I became more interested in science I have realized that science has a lot more to offer than any other subject. Not only does science offer a plethora of different subjects, but also hundreds of opportunities for careers that I know I would enjoy pursuing as an adult. This is the main reason why I have decided that I want to study a science subject in college; however, because there are so many branches of science, I have no idea which branch of science I would enjoy best or which branch I want to pursue in college. If I attend the STEMinars, I know that I will be introduced to several different branches of science, and this will help me find which branches are not only for me, but the ones that are not for me as well. Because I have not truly thought of pursuing a science subject in college until my junior year, I have not taken advantage of many opportunities that could have broadened my knowledge of science. I want to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible in the time that I have left in high school that will immerse me in different science fields, and the STEMinars would help me accomplish that goal. Even though I have only begun to really enjoy science and have wanted to pursue a science career recently, I feel that I have always excelled in science or social science classes, especially B and sociology. Science subjects especially after my sophomore year have started to come naturally to me; science has always interested me, and is a pleasure to learn. I hope that if I am selected to attend the STEMinars, it will help me find the specific branch of science I enjoy best as well as narrow down what specific branch of science, I want to select as my major in college. I feel that if I get to experience the STEMinars and work with people who are passionate about B or human behavior like I am that it will not only help me chose a major for college, but also motivate me to work hard to be successful in whatever major I end up choosing. I know that many of things that I will learn through STEMinars are things that I would never be able to learn in a classroom, and that everything I will learn through the STEMinars will impact my future and my life greatly.   1. I got good feedback from a friend who did it and became interested because I am really interested in science and technology. I would also like to pursue a career in B or gaming technology. Gaming technology really intrests me because I have always wanted to make my own game with a few friends of mine one of which is attending whos name is Kody Hanson. And B also interests me because I have always wanted to discover a species and be credited as the person who discovered it.
