- On a separate sheet of paper, draw a coordinate plane. Label points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) on the coordinate plane. (It doesn't matter where you put them.) Now find the average (or mean) of the x's and the average of the y's and label that point on your paper.
Explain the connection between your diagram and the Midpoint Formula.
|
- Start the same way you started the last question. Draw a coordinate plane and label points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). Draw a right triangle in which the hypotenuse is the distance between your two points. Label the lengths of the two legs in terms of x1, x2, y1, and y2. Now use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse.
Explain the connection between your diagram and the Distance Formula.

- Is it possible to bisect a line? Explain.

- One endpoint of segment US is M(-3, 5). The midpoint of segment US is P(2, 1). Explain how to find the length of US.
