APHG Spring 2014 Course Evaluation

This survey is to help me make decision on how to improve what I do and how I do it in APHG for future ninjas. I really take your responses seriously - in fact each year I change or add things based on responses to this survey.

Please remember, that with certain items, it is not always about "liking" doing something (like no one LIKES homework), but this is about what worked and what didn't or what just needs tweaking to help students be prepared for the exam.

*The more details you can give me in your answers the better.

Please do not just be mean to be mean...I do this to try and improve myself, not so you can just rip me up:)

A red asterisk (*) indicates required questions.

  1. What was your favorite chapter and why?*

  1. What was your least favorite chapter and why?*

  1. Which hands on activities did you find most helpful to you in learning content and in remembering content, and why. (hands on activities could be anything from matching activities at your table, making small group posters, textbook relays, organizing information strips at your table, etc)*

  1. In terms of online resources, which resources in Moodle, or linked in Moodle did you find most helpful to you as we went along (could be geo games, website links, etc)?*

  1. This question is ONLY for those who attended the online Safari LIVE chat the night before the exam.
Please give me your feedback on the use of Safari LIVE for this chat...this is the first time I've used a live webcast for a chat - where you can see and hear me.
I would like general feedback, but also, did you find the style helpful? too challenging?

  1. This question is ONLY for anyone who was absent during the last half of the semester AFTER we had Safari LIVE and I was able to record and email you a link to watch a class you missed.
If you were absent, did you watch the class you missed using the link provided to you?
If you did - what feedback can you give me? Was it helpful? did it help you feel like you had not missed class? Would you utilize this resource again if you were absent? Any suggestions?

If you did NOT watch the class session emailed to you, why not? Is there anything that could have enticed you to watch in?

  1. FOR EVERYONE:
In regards to review activities in the last 4 days before the exam, which activities were most valuable to you? (MC practice and going over questions, FRQ practice, me going over concepts, playing 'heads up', playing talk a mile a minute, doing A-Z review game, etc)*

  1. Did you like or find it helpful, the poster I hung on the bulliten board that you could add "things you want to reivew" to? Do you have any suggestions on how I could improve this review tool for next year?*

  1. This question is ONLY for people who regularly did the photo project in each chapter.

What did you like most about this part of the homework?
What did you find most challenging?
Though it could be challenging at times (and remember - challenge isn't always bad!), did you find this project fun? interesting? helpful in connecting APHG to your world and thus 'get' the concepts better as you had internalized them?

  1. This question is for those of you who DID NOT regularly do the photo project:

Why did you choose not to do this project each chapter?
Is there anything that I could have done or changed about it that would have made you more likely to complete it?

  1. For those of you who DID utilize the 'study plan' I prepared what did you find most helpful about it? What suggestions do you have on how I could improve? What kinds of incentives would you like to see as options for completing it?

  1. For those of you who DID NOT utilize the 'study plan' I prepared, why did you not use it? Is there anything I could have changed about it that would have made you use it?

  1. FOR EVERYONE:
Many of you didn't start using Quizlet until class was half over or more...yet, once you did you all mentioned how helpful you found it...Sooooo...
    1. why did it take so long to get you to start using it?
    2. What could I do or tell students to get them to use Quizlet from the START of the semester?
    3. Other Quizlet suggestions or comments?*

  1. What other suggestions do you have on things I can or could fix/change/improve so I can get even better in the future?*

  1. I really wanted to inspire you through the tough times in class - as I know this class is like a marathon to the exam...and thus I did the weekly quotes that I had you write and make a connection to.
Did you find this helpful at all? (meaning did you really think about the quote and did it inspire you, or help you, or make you thinK?)

Are there any suggestions you have as to how I could improve this activity?*

  1. Any other comments or suggestions you want to share?*

  1. Remind 101 was new just this semester. Did you find it helpful to receive the texts I sent? Is this a service I should continue?*

  1. Class calendar. For those of you who used the class calendar, did you find it helpful and informative?

If you did not use it, why not? Is there anything I could have done to get you to use it?*

  1. The Red binders...first, they are not going away - I hope you saw that things from the binder WERE on the exam. Second, having questions on the key issues isn't going away either - as without those I know you wouldn't have made yourself read in the binder.

So....with that in mind, what constructive feedback do you have as to how I can make the binders even better! This could include the physicality of how they are put together, or how I incorporate the information. Should I have more questions on concepts? Should I work to include news articles where APHG concepts are seen? Anything constructive is helpful:)*
