- GENERAL INFORMATION
How many years have you taught Spanish as a second-language in the classroom?
- How many years have you given the NSE to your students?
- The National Spanish Exam is both a valid assessment and a contest. What is your primary reason for giving the NSE?
- Do you view the NSE as good preparation for other standardized exams such as AP, IB, etc...
- EXAM LEVEL. For which level of exam are you completing this review?
- In what state is the school where you teach located?
- PRACTICE MATERIALS. Do you use the following practice materials to prepare students for the National Spanish Exam?
- TEST CONTENT
Please rank the following exam categories in order of how closely each area matches your own curriculum. NOTE: 1 signifies MOST closely matched and 4 means LEAST closely matched. REMEMBER: You are answering the questions for the exam level you chose in question 5.
- Please observe the following two examples of vocabulary and grammar questions.
EXAMPLE of vocabulary and grammar tested as discrete point.

EXAMPLE of vocabulary and grammar in integrated in context.

Which ONE of the above examples do you prefer for the level of exam you chose in question 5?
- NSE is considering providing teachers with (1) models of integrated performance assessments [speaking and writing] and (2) rubrics to grade those assessments.
These assessments would NOT be part of the official NSE contest but would be optional assessments that teachers could give and grade on their own.
Would you use such assessments if they were provided?
- Keeping in mind that the NSE is a computer graded exam with a cost of $3 per student, what changes (other than a speaking and writing component which would add greatly to the cost) would you like to see made to test content?
- RESULTS. The results sent back to teachers contain both raw scores and national percentiles.
Do you / your school use this data in any way?
- Do you share results with your administration (department head, supervisor, principal)?
- How does your school use the data?
- PRIZES. Over the past several years, the NSE has increased the number of awards given to students. [In 2014, the amount of awards will total $115,485.]
Have you had students apply for any of the following awards?
- If you have not had students apply for awards, why have they not applied?
- Please agree or disagree with the following statements.
- What other comments do you have which would help the NSE Staff provide a better experience for you and/or your students?
