E-9 Reading Survey (Lewis block 2)

Welcome to ninth grade English! A substantial part of this course has to do with reading, analyzing and appreciating good literature. Since we’ll be spending so much time with words on the page, I'd like to know what kind of background you have as a reader, what your individual reading style is, what your likes and dislikes are, your favorite books ever, and your goals as a reader for this year. The unique background that you bring to this class is important to me in thinking about our year to come, so spend some time tonight filling out this survey. At the end of this survey I'll also be interested to hear from you about how you liked our summer reading book, PAPER TOWNS.

It really depends on the book.

  1. Walk around your home (anywhere but in your own room) and find the titles of at least three books that grab your attention. List them here. (It's OK if this is from memory, but don't just make these titles up. If you don't have books in your home, tell about the kind of writing you do see around your home.)*

  1. Tell Mr. Lewis something else you want to share about yourself as a reader or about your experience with literature in the past. Are there any particular hopes you have for this class? Any books you especially look forward to reading this year? Any questions for your teacher? Put anything you'd like in this space, but include some kind of thoughtful response. *

  1. So, honestly and personally -- what did you think of the summer reading book, PAPER TOWNS? If you liked something about it, explain what stood out to you. If it wasn't your cup of tea, give some specific reasons to explain your response. If you're still finishing or are only partway through, tell me where you are and what you think so far (there will be no bad consequences for honest responses here!). Write a minimum of 100 words on this one for full credit. Thanks!*
