- So, what's your name? And if it's different, what do you like to be called in class?*
- Well, nice to meet you (or to make your acquaintance again). I'm Mr. Lewis. I like rock climbing and ultimate frisbee, armadillos and anchovies (for different reasons), skiing and playing the banjo and watching movies (but not all at the same time). How about you?
If there was just one thing about you that I could know in order to understand who you really are (right now), what would that be? For instance, what do you LOVE right now? Why?) Write at least two sentences.*
- Share a little:
What's one book you've read in the past two years that was just great? What made it memorable to you? Write at least two sentences for full credit here!*
- Share some more:
What's a book that comes deep out of your memory banks that meant a lot to you? You know, like when you were four or five or six or seven years old. What made it important? (My answer is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. It still gets to me.) Oh, and as is true for all of these questions, write at least two sentences for full credit.*
- How about films? What's your favorite movie of all time? How come? What makes it great? At least two sentences for full credit, yo.*
- Think metaphorically, now: If this class were a car, what "part" would you likely be and why?
(For an example, I might say "I'd be the GPS navigation device on the dashboard because my job is to not only consider where we're going as a class but also the route by which we get there. Would you be the horn? A drive shaft? A carburetor? A windshield? Think about your personality here and what you might be able to contribute!)*
- What's something that has been a real challenge for you in English classes that you've taken? You can be as specific or as general as you'd like here. (But 2 or more sentences, por favor.)*
- What's something that you find you're pretty good at in English? What do you do well? (No leaving this one blank -- you know you do something well!)*
- Would you rather lick a moist, living frog (a real lick, now) or eat a crispy, garlic-fried slug (not living, obviously)? You must pick one. Explain your thinking.*
- What is one (or more!) thing I could try to do as your teacher this semester to make this a rewarding and valuable class for you personally? Explain in as much detail as you need to.*
