17 USI C5 Articles of Confederation and Constitution

The year is 1787 and you are a representative for a state in the newly independent United States of America. You will need to decide what you would like to see in a new government. Keep in mind the information you know about your state.

  1. Do you want to keep the Articles of Confederation? Why or Why not? Do you want to revise or throw them out entirely and start again? Why?


  1. Do you want a leader? If so, what kind of leader? (describe the qualities) What if the leader gets too powerful?


  1. Would you want a Congress? If so, how will that number or representatives be determined? Should women and children count as population even if though they probably won't be given the right to vote? What about slaves?


  1. Who would have the right to vote? Everyone? Even people who cannot read or write and may know nothing about politics? What if they vote for an evil leader?
