Choose the one activity that you would like to complete during this unit of study.
Analogy Cell – Research the structures of the cell. Determine the function of each structure. Find a larger object that performs the same function in their day-to-day life. For example, a chloroplast is similar to a restaurant because a restaurant gathers raw materials and produces food we can eat and a chloroplast gathers raw materials and makes carbohydrates (sugars) for the plant. Use newspapers, magazines and the internet to cut out pictures of the items like the restaurant and paste them into a large cell that you construct from posterboard. You MUST include explanations of how the object is like the cell part it is analogous to.
3-D Cell Model – Pick whatever supplies you will need to complete a model of the cell. You can use Styrofoam, cardboard, clay, pipe cleaners, etc. The model must be large and clearly labeled with structure names and functions.
Cell Song – Compose your very own song describing the organelles of the cell and their functions. You must perform your song live in front of the class or video tape it so it can be viewed in class.
Directed Reading – Complete a very extensive directed reading covering cell structures and functions.
Edible Cells - Pick whatever supplies you will need to complete a model of the cell. You can use any edible supplies, so be creative. The model must be accompanied with a large poster clearly labeled with structure names and functions.
Cell Story – Create an original story that includes all of the cell structures as characters in the story. You must weave the functions of the organelles into the story.
