Communication Fundamentals and History

- Have the events of September 11, 2001, caused you to look at your own culture differently? Amid all the flags and patriotism, are we, as Americans, undergoing a reassessment of the meaning of "American culture"? If so, can you predict the outcome of this reassessment?

- Who were your childhood heroes and heroines? Why did you chose them? What cultural lessons did you learn from them?

- Consider the changes brought about by the shift from an oral to a literate culture. How similar or different do you think the changes will be as we move to a more fully computer literate culture?

- How do you chose which programing / media to watch? How thoughtful are your choices? How do you chose videos? Movies? How thoughtful are you in choosing them? What is your thought process?

- Consider the shift from print to digital we've experienced over the last 30 years. Reflect on what you feel the impact has been on a new generation (your generation) coming of age with technology such a fundamental part of your childhood. Consider having social media accounts, seeing people and culture modeled for you in the media, and so on. (Take this prompt and dive deeper in any direction you feel moved in.)
