S1/2 Curriculum Survey - Parents

We are currently reviewing our S1/2 curriculum and would appreciate your perspective as parents, having already asked the pupils their opinion. We are sending this to parents of those currently in S1 & 2, as well as those in S3 who have experienced it most recently.
Currently in S1 some subjects are in rotation (for example, Art/Music/Drama/Graphics or Biology/Chemistry/Physics). This should mean fewer teachers to get to know at any one time, and less homework and assessments at the same time (the exams for Bio/Che/Phy are spread throughout the year, rather than with all the other subjects in May) but we would like to know if you agree with this.

  1. Questions relevant to both S1 and S2

Please indicate how strongly you agree or disagree with the following statements:

            1 2 3 4
Pupils get the opportunity in school to learn about health and wellbeing and explore topics that are relevant to their age group. Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree
Dealing with lots of different subjects in a week is difficult for pupils. Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree

  1. Please list any subjects (or groups of subjects) that you think pupils get too often across S1-2.

  1. Please list any subjects (or groups of subjects) that you think pupils don’t get often enough across S1-2.

  1. Please comment on what aspects of the S1/2 curriculum you think pupils find most challenging (for example, a particular time of year, keeping on top of homework, and so on).

  1. Please add below any other comments about what you do or don’t like about the S1/2 curriculum. This could include any suggestions for other subjects you would like to see available.

  1. Questions about S1

Please indicate how strongly you agree or disagree with the following statements:

            1 2 3 4
I am happy with the subjects available in the S1 curriculum. Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree
I think subjects in rotation in S1 is a good idea. Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree
I think there should be more subjects per week in S1 to avoid rotations (for example one period each of Bio/Che/Phy for the whole year, rather than how it is organised just now). Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree

  1. Questions about S2

Please indicate how strongly you agree or disagree with the following statements:

            1 2 3 4
I am happy with the subjects available in the S2 Curriculum.  Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree
Some rotations should be introduced into S2 in order to get fewer subjects per week (e.g. History/Geography for 3 periods in rotation rather than 1 ½ periods per week). Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree
1 or 1 ½ periods per week is too few and makes it difficult to get going in these subjects (e.g. Art, Music, Geography, History in S2). Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree

  1. In S2 pupils are able to choose one of their subjects. Do you think:

  1. If you do think there should be choice in S2, do you have any suggestions for what subjects should be grouped together for these choices?
