When considering the study of US History and what we learn, who's story should be told? Which sources should we use and why?
We are studying US imperialism, which featured the US government conquering and acquiring foreign territories and taking colonies. A question that arises is:
What rights should the people in those colonies have?
Should they be able to vote?
Can they emigrate to the United States (their mother country) whenever they want?
What happens when a US soldier stationed in a colony injures or does something bad to a person from that colony or territory?
Where does the soldier receive justice and from whom?
Do the colonists get to punish him? what is fairest and best?
explain?
