Contemporary Lit Movies and TV Shows (end of semester)

This is a list of some of the movies we may have time to watch at the end of the semester. Please take the time to choose a few that you would like to watch. We will watch whatever gets the most votes.

  1. If you would like to watch some TV shows, choose 1-3 that you'd like to watch. If you'd rather watch a couple movies instead, skip this question and go on to the movies.
    Jericho
    Star Trek: The Next Generation
    Doctor Who
    Stargate: SG-1
    The Twilight Zone
    Futurama
Merlin (a retelling of the King Arthur legends)
Warehouse 13 (like X-Files but funnier)
    Eureka (a town built around a super-secret government facility-comedy)
Supernatural (monsters, attractive actors, and a cool car)

  1. If you'd like to watch movies, select 1-3 that you would really like to see. The number of movies we watch will be somewhat dictated by when we get through with presentations. If you'd rather suggest a different movie than what's on my list, go on to the next question
Ready Player One (based on the book but with some significant changes)
Oblivion (post apocaplyptic future, Tom Cruise)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (yer a wizard, Harry)
Ender's Game (war with aliens, child soldiers will save us...or not)
After Earth (post apocalyptic future, Will Smith's son will save us)
2001: A Space Odyssey (space exploration and an evil computer)
Men In Black (aliens on earth, Will Smith will save us)
Gravity (in space, no one can hear you scream)
Pacific Rim (big monster aliens vs. giant robots = AWESOME)
    Real Steel (boxing robots)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (a less than serious look at King Arthur)
Back to the Future (time travel is more fun with a Delorean)
Hancock (Will Smith is not a great superhero)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (good vs. evil with characters from famous literature)
The Matrix (virtual reality and evil machines, WARNING: rated R)
X-Men (mutants with cool super powers)
    Ghostbusters (ghosts and hilariousness)
Minority Report (utopia/dystopia by arresting people BEFORE they commit crimes)
Independence Day (aliens attacking earth, Will Smith will save us)
Godzilla (1956 American version, giant monster attacking Tokyo)
Avatar (Pocohontas/Dances With Wolves with big blue aliens)
Signs (I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's aliens)
Spaceballs (spoof of pretty much every well-known scifi movie from the 1960s to the 1980s)
Interstellar (space and time travel, rescuing Matt Damon)
Galaxy Quest (spoof of Star Trek and conventions)
The Martian (rescuing Matt Damon, again, using potatoes)
Terminator (murderous robots, time travel, Arnold Schwartzenegger, what's not to love? WARNING: rated R because they didn't have PG-13 back then)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (pirates/zombies)
San Andreas (massive earthquake, The Rock will save us)
2012 (the world blows up, nobody will save us)
Ladyhawke (fantasy, one of the movies Ready Player One references)
Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977--original Star Wars movie)
The Princess Bride (you don't know this movie? Inconceivable!)
The Last Starfighter (playing video games teaches you how to fight aliens)
Inception (ability to enter and manipulate other people's dreams)
Iron Man (the movie that started the whole enchilada)
Captain America: The First Avenger (because that really is America's a$$)
Volcano (Los Angeles blows up, Tommy Lee Jones will save us)
Stardust (fun fantasy example of the hero's journey, plus Robert DeNiro in drag)
The Day After Tomorrow (climate change, Dennis Quaid will save us)

  1. Do you have another suggestion for a movie or tv show that we could watch that isn't on my list? Add it here.
