Digital Literacy Survey

The purpose of this survey is to complete an education technology class project. All data are anonymous and the results will only be used for this one class project. A combined report of raw data can be requested by emailing me at imelis@bmcc.edu. Your contribution is much appreciated.

The American Library Association (ALA) defines digital literacy as "the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both technical and cognitive skills" (ALA, 2013).     High schools should prepare students for all they need in college.
    All students should take intoduction to computer courses in college.
    The library should support their needs in digital literacy.
    Content teachers should teach students the technology needed in their classes.
    Students should learn on their own.


  1. What is the best way to assess students' digital literacy?*
    There should be a standardized test for digital literacy, just like ACT or SAT.
    Colleges should develop in-house computer literacy assessment tools.
    There is no need for assessment. I can teach them what they need.
    This is a digital native generation. They already know all they need.


  1. As an instructor, what do you see as the main advantages of teaching with technology and/or Moodle? Mark all that applies.*
    It saves me a lot of time and work.
    Using technology/Moodle makes instruction more effective.
    Technology and online teaching engage students more.
    Technology skills are much wanted for all jobs these days.
    Teaching with technology is creative and fun.

    Students get distracted while online.
    There is more cheating when students access the web.
    There is not enough interaction with teacher and peers.
    There are too many technical glitches to deal with.

    Educational technology is not designed by teachers and has many limitations.
    We do not have access to enough high quality sources (apps, programs).
    Reliable high speed internet access is still a problem for many.
