Ions II

The ions in this group are new to you. For that reason, this group is much smaller than the first group. I also included some group I ions for review.

These are all polyatomic ions that are similar to the ones you already know.

Remember that "ite" ions are the same as "ate" ions with one less oxygen and the same charge.

Atoms in the same group on the periodic table behave similarly, so all the halogens form similar polyatomics, carbon and silicon form similar polyatomics, etc.

Also, putting "hydrogen" in front of an ion name just adds an H+ to the ion. So the charge increases by one. Example: carbonate, CO3^2- and hydrogen carbonate HCO3^-.

All the halogen ions (even polyatomics) have a 1- charge.
