Ions IV
Welcome to the 4th set of ions! Remember to keep practicing sets 1-3 if you are struggling with them. There are only 5 new ones this time. This set includes more "hydrogen" ions, where you just add H+ to an ion you already know (this increases the charge by 1). It also includes "per-ate" ions, which are the same as the "ate" ions with one extra oxygen and the same charge. "hypo-ite" ions are hte same as the "ite" ions with one less oxygen. In summary - "per-ate" = most oxygens, "ate" = one less oxygen than "per-ate" "ite" = one less oxygen than "ate" "hypo-ite" = one less oxygen than "ite" All have the same charge. Mostly happens with halogens.
