Fifth Graders should continue working on the Dolch Sight Word Lists. They should practice these words each night for 15 minutes. Please see the Fifth Grade page for Sight Word lists. Please listen to your child read and check the agenda daily, then sign and return it with your child.
Sixth Graders will begin their study of Vocabulary Building. We will be reading different kinds of stories such as narratives, descriptions, and factual reports. They will be working steadily in the Waterford Early Reading Program to improve reading skills. They need to complete homework weekly.
Seventh Graders will be getting ready for the TAKS Reading test that they will take this year. We will be analyzing published literature to examine writing techniques for a better understanding of reading purposes. We will be learning 10 new words each week which will be tested weekly. We will be completing reading packets to model good reading skills and reinforce ways to be a good reader. We will also focus on math vocabulary so they will have better understanding of the new concepts being introduced this year.
Eighth Graders are going to be busy preparing for the TAKS Reading test they will take this year. Students should be working on building their vocabulary to help improve theri understanding of what they are reading. It is really important for your child to read 10-15 minutes every night before going to bed!!
