A | B |
Commutative Property | The order of the two numbers involved does NOT affect the value. This property only applies to two operations: addition and multiplication. |
Associative Property | The grouping of two or more numbers does not affect the value. ONly Applies to two operations: addition and multiplication. |
Distributive Property | Involves distributing the number outside of a parenthesis to each number on the inside of parenthesis. |
Identity Property of Addition | Any number plus zero equals the original number. |
Identity Property of Multiplication | Any number times one equals the original number. |
Additive Inverse | A number added to another number to equal zero. Ex. -9 and 9 are additive inverses. |
Multiplicative Inverse | A number multiplied by another number to equal one. This is usually called the reciprical. For ex. 4 and 1/4 are reciprocals. |
3 + 0 = 3 | Identity Property of Addition |
3 + 4 = 4 + 3 | Commutative Property |
(3 + 4) + 5 = 3 + ( 4 + 5) | Associative Property |
(3 x 4) x 5 = 3 x ( 4 x 5) | Associative Property |
3 x 4 = 4 x 3 | Commutative Property |
3(4 +5) = 3(4) + 3(5) = 12 + 15 = 27 | Distributive Property |
3 x 1 = 3 | Identity Property of Multiplication |
-9 + 9 = 0 | Additive Inverse |
The reciprocal of 4 is | 1/4 |
Zero Property of Multiplication | Any number times 0 equals 0. |
