Chapters 1 and 2 Vocabulary Practice

Practice vocabulary from Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Note: We won't discuss Chapter 2.4 until later this week, so some of this vocabulary may be new, but it is a good way to preview the words.

If the definition is too long to fit on the card, the definition can also be read at the bottom of the game board.

Newton's first lawobjects at rest remain at rest and objects in motion remain in motion at the same velocity, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
inertiathe resistance of an object a change in the speed or direction of its motion
Newton's second lawthe acceleration of an object increases with increased force and decreases with increased mass (F=ma)
centripetal forceany force that keeps an object moving in a circle
Newton's third lawforces act in pairs (for every action thers is an equal and opposite reaction)
