Ions I

The first group of ion symbol and charges to memorize. You should know all of these from honors chemistry.

Remember, monatomic anions end in "ide" and you can figure out their charge by looking at the group it's in on the periodic table.

Also remember that "ite" polyatomics are the same as the "ate" polyatomics except that they have one less oxygen.

The ion formulas are written inline (without subscripts) and the charge follows a carat. For example, the sulfate ion is written as SO4^2-. This is how you will always type in ion formulas on this site.
