Minimal Pairs with the /th/ and /s/ Consonant Sounds

English learners often have a difficult time discriminating between the voiceless /th/ sound and the /s/ sound.

The voiceless /th/ is made by pushing the tongue between the front teeth.

The /s/ sound is made by pushing the tongue up towards the gum ridge.

Choose the minimal word pairs with /th/ and /s/ sounds. Be sure to pronounce each word aloud!
