AWS Electrode specifications | strict manufacturing specifications developed by the American Welding Society for electrodes and fluxes. These specifications are published and revised every five years. |
Deposition rate | the weight of material applied in a unit of time, usually expressed in lb/hr or kg/hr. |
electrode covering | flux materials combined into a thick, clay-like mixture and then applied to the electrode wire in a very exact thickness. |
electrode dispenser | a device for temporary storage of SMAW electrodes. The dispenser protects the electrodes and keeps them relatively dry. |
electrode drying oven | equipment in which an adequate supply of SMAW electrodes can be kept under ideal conditions. |
electrode identification system | a system of identification numbers for all welding electrodes, developed by the American Welding Society. |
hydrogen (h2) | a chemical element used as a fuel gas in oxyfuel gas welding. |
low hydrogen electrodes | electrodes used for SMAW that have little or no hydrogen in them. |
welding procedure specifications (WPS) | a document that lists in detail the specifics of the job: the base metal to be welded, the filler metals to be used, the preheat or post-welding treatment to be used, the metal thickness, and all other variables for each welding process. All items in the specification are identified as essential or nonessential. |
